Hey Another Sidney Resident: You're right his family are victims along with all of the other victims...over two decades of victims and if they had come forward 20 some years ago...well sweetheart we wouldn't be having this blog in the 21st century now would we? And if you believe their business has nothing to do with his legal support then your elevator is stuck on the first floor. Although, you are right honey...you have no idea what has been going on behind closed doors. Put on your glasses. Things aren't always the way they appear

I've nown the man for years.....not surprised. He used to be partnered with some good people, and all of a sudden the partnership came to an abrupt end. They had a daughter.....probably part of the problem. Sad, very sad.

NOBODY SAID THAT IT DIDN'T TAKE A LOT OF COURAGE FOR THOSE GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!
No Idea wrote:
That's fine-you go right ahead and commend and credit his family for their efforts, just hope and pray that you never have a child or a grandchild that has to go through what these numerous other girls have. Obviously you have not been keeping up with the news as it has unfolded or you to would realize that "You're right", you have no CLUE what is and has been going on behind closed doors!!!!! It takes a hell of alot more courage for these girls than it will EVER take his family to face the public in their community.

Are you serious!!! Don't you think it's funny the pizzeria changed hands only AFTER Tony was arrested. And don't think for a minute Tony's hands still aren't in the cookie jar even though he's in jail. Who do you think is paying for those high priced lawyers?, everybody that eats there, thats who."Victims" NO IDEA is right you need to do your homework.

{"headlinelight18"/} Family showed true strength
The Daily Star January 29, 2008

Thank you, Federal Judge Thomas McAvoy! You have put a smile back on the faces of good people where there has been none for more then a year. When the gavel came down sentencing Tony Martinucci to 25 years behind bars for his many heinous deeds, a collective and resounding "yes" was heard.

Thank you to a young girl who had the courage to speak aloud the many injustices that were done to her and bring out in the open the despicable things Tony Martinucci had done.

Imagine for a moment being the parents and family of a child who for their entire lives had trusted this man as a friend. A man thought of as family. Saying to your children "Uncle Tony," words that to a child mean trust. To find your lives shattered into a million pieces and pray it can all be put back together in a way that the future of this child and this family can somehow repair itself.

I can only think of this family as courageous with true caring for others more then themselves to endure the scrutiny, pain and heartache these last months have brought waiting for justice to be served. I personally thank them for being the strong ones and taking another pedophile away from our innocent children.

May your hearts and minds mend knowing YOU are the real protectors of our precious children by taking one more vermin off the streets. You have given hope to others by your strength.

Martinucci coverage needed The Daily Star January 26, 2008

I thank your newspaper for its coverage of the rape and pornography case involving the young 10-year-old victim and Americo "Tony" Martinucci. I understand that some would rather not have to read about the details of cases like this. After all, it does turn one's stomach to think about what this innocent child went through. However, society needs to wake up to the fact that predators like Martinucci are everywhere, stealing the innocence and lives of young children across this country.

Fortunately, the child in this case survived. She was one of the lucky ones. One of the strong ones. She found the courage to speak up, and her courage helped convict this man. But, she and her family will forever bear the emotional scars of what this man did to her. No child or family should have to endure what this child and her family have gone through.

There are those who would choose to ignore or treat lightly what is happening on a daily basis in towns all across this country. We must wake up to the fact there are too many cases like this, and too many in which the defendant is treated with lenience by our courts. I hope your paper, as an example to newspapers in other communities, continues to keep stories like this out front and not buried on a back page. Hopefully, when enough people in enough communities get sick of reading about these cases, sick of having children robbed of their innocence, they will stand up and demand action, demand laws that protect our children and treat pedophiles and perverts like Martinucci with the harshness and severity they deserve. Hopefully, they will do so before the child they are reading about is their own.

Reporter's Notebook: Coverage of arrests and trials praised The Daily Star January 19, 2008

When Americo "Tony" Martinucci, 66, of Sidney Center, was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison Jan. 11, it was end of only one part of the story _ a story that has dragged on for months and will continue until the state charges that are still pending are resolved.

The former pizzeria owner who videotaped himself having sex with a preteen girl in 2003 faces rape and sexual-abuse charges in Delaware County.

At times, The Daily Star is criticized for its coverage of sex crimes, but in this case, the family of the victim was grateful that the public was told the whole story.

After the sentencing, the victim's father said, "I applaud The Daily Star as they have been very up to date with recording what has been happening, not just in our case, but all of them _ Frascatore, Hunt, et cetera.

"This type of crime doesn't just affect a family; it involves an entire community," he said. "Lately all you have to do is pick up a newspaper or watch the news and you can hear about children being sexually assaulted and abused.

"For the last year and a half, there have been a number of people arrested for sexual crimes in and around our community," he continued. "I have read the complaints that some people have written in the (letters to the editor) about the paper being too explicit about their recording of these types of crimes.

"I strongly feel these people need to wake up. People need to know the truth about the severity of what is happening to our children in today's world.

"I hope by The Daily Star staying on top of these stories," the father said, "people will become more aware of the world we are living in, even if they are shocked by the article.

"If the Daily Star can save one child from the hands of a pedophile, they should be applauded," he continued.
