The pictures would be all over the newspaper if it had been the other guy's fault. I agree, I think Romans was wanting to hammer down on that Hemi and lost control of the car.

Sorry I haven't been on in a few days. Some of us have real jobs. Just got done with a few 24 hour shifts.
But as a matter of fact, I left on my own...yeah, they tried to get me to come back but I had had enough of that sorry excuse of a department. Now I work for a real department and actually get paid. They even have proper training. What I hear is that they called Wings and its going to cost $7000 when they could have called med flight for much cheaper. That's the question that the Virginia State Police asked the chief. I won't be on for about three more days, I have a real job to get back to. For the record though, I am glad I left the CFD, it really showed me that some departments really do care about the citizens and not just about themselves, and now I finally work for one of those departments. |

Work for a real department....but you don't say which one. I'm betting on Walmart "department" store.
Well that would be a real department wouldn't it?
what kind of department works several 24hour shifts in a row? FORMER needs to buy a scanner so he can get his facts straight. on the scanner that day, medflight was talking on the radio.....no 7000$ bill for him

Well as I see it, wings is closer to chilhowie then medflight so as any "TRAINED" person should know, the closes avalible helocopter should have been called. When time is what counts in trauma, I think I would prefer the closes availible (no matter how much it cost)!

Very true and when it comes to life or death, there is no expense too high. And I too would prefer the closest helicopter, also.

FORMER CFD obviously doesn't see it that way. On the radio, the on-scene crew called for the closest available helicopter...which i think is what should always be said. Departments shouldnt call a request a service by name. Request closest and let the dispatcher find out which is closest. Time is tissue........

My .02 on the "closest" issue ... if there is immediate need, then by all means take the closest no matter the cost. But if it's an accident where the patient has to be extracated, a non-life threatening but serious medical incident, or something that would create 15 - 20 minutes delay in the first responders prepping the patient for air transport, then I'd certainly prefer that MedFlight would be the logical choice even with the distance. Too many times I've heard about people being put on private birds and being hit with 10 - 20 THOUSAND DOLLARS in extra expense that insurance won't cover. If there is critical need, sure, we can worry about the cost if we survive. But I appreciate the ems providers that also consider the costs.

With all EMS or Fire have to deal with on the scene of an accident, I think its safer and easier for them to call for closest availible. It is also a liability for them to pick and choose who they call. If a patient dies or gets a life altering injury then everything about the call is under review and if it can be blamed on one link of the call as being at fault then all the blame will end up on that one agency.

But look who they called last week in Washington County when Glade couldn't get the lady out of the car when it rolled from I-81 onto Highway 11. The helicopter called CFD! AND they got her out!

Well, all I can say is that CFD has some VERY dedicated volunteers. They lost one of their best last winter, but he trained a fine group of men that will respond if you need them. Hope you don't need them, SIR! If you think they are so bad, why don't YOU volunteer.

been there, done that. if they respond so great, why do there alerts go off two or three times? I hope I dont need them, I'll have to work on myself!
