Unbelievable!!! The parent plant of the Merillat company, is to be closed, second quarter 2009. What would Orville say if alive today? Which domino in the Masco BCG family is next? Ocala, Adrian, Mt. Sterling is to be re-tooled. The economy and the stock market is in the gutter. Masco will reorganize and consolidate these companies until the housing markets rebound, then come out on top of the competition. Oops, sorry if more than a few workers and their families are discarded along the way. "WE" were the reason for the sucess of this company. Hard work and sacrifice gets the boot in the azz when bottom lines and CEO pay and compensation begins to get squeezed. What happened to being in this mess together? Sorry about the attitude...good luck to all fellow employees involved in these tough times.

In another article they mention a plant in Las Vegas. That plant was shut down in April 2007. The plant in Los Lunas,New Mexico took over the work. My understanding is the plant in Ocala,Florida will be idled until conditions improve. That may not happen for a long time.

Greetings from the Mount Jackson, VA Masco BCG plant. We are very sorry to see your plant close and I agree with everything you have said. We were supposed to get a new finishing line a couple of years ago and Masco pulled the plug. We expect to get the news any time that our plant will be closed. Hang in there. You're going to have a lot of company as Masco protects their bottom line at the expense of the workers who have made the money for them all these years. They really don't give a damn about us.

Your fellow "Team Memebers " in Ocala Fla. were saddened and shocked to hear about the Adrian Mi. plant closing. Our Prayers and well wishes are with ALL of You. Merillat is definetly taking the Low Road . I'm sure Karen Strauss hasn't lost a wink of sleep over the way she's "Dumped" these plants and the REAL money makers. Ocala was called the "Flagship" plant. Some flagship. A word of warning to ALL the other plants.....This now means NOONE is safe. Best wishes to ALL of You from All of Us. Ocala, Florida

I feel your pain. I will pray that the Lord will bless us all.
I also work at the Ocala plant, and can not beleive the inhuman ways we have been treated. Was it just a couple years ago when they took away our afternoon break. Anyone working in finishing needs more breaks. Maybe if Alice Avery and Leon had to sray for 8 hours they would be a bit more civil with the employees. Just know in your heart that they to will have to come before God to be judged. They will be the first to be judged. We will once again have to wait behind him, but for all those good people who have been made to suffer, at the cost of taking care of you r families, there iwll be rewards for you. Keep your chin up, and know that God has a plan for us all, ask for his guidance and strength, beleive in your heart that our Lord Jesus Christ will protect us all. Though these may be some of the worst times we have ever faced, please know that things will get better.Trust in the Lord, and ask for his help. He will help you!!
Good luck to you and your family. Find Jesus and ask for his help.

So now here is the latest from Ocala. We were offered jobs in other plnats. Los lunas, Duncanville, wvirgna, kentuky. They didnt offer us any money to move. I guess it makes them feel better knowing at least they offered. Now how is anyone supposed to be able to move your familyl with no money. For petes sake, many our losing homes, have no utility service, struggling to eat.Let the area leaders survive on 240 a week and see how fast they lose everything. We are sitting with incomes below POVERTY!!!! Instead of laying off people, and at least letting some get 40 hr pay, they have husrt the whole working force down here. Im just thankful knowing no one has blown their heads off. We are stuck here. Masco ran us into the ground. Im sure if they wanted to cut back and money was so tight within the copnay, they would have sold the compnys jets. How bout this, bring those jets into the ocala airport and load us up, take us to the other plants if you reallyt care about helping people. But Im sure masco would never do this. They might have to get personal with some of the people. The company on lousiana that came and tried to get eone workers at least offered peple 6 weeks of paid housing/apartment so they could get back on their feet. Does anyone out there realize Ocala was the lowest paid plant under the masco/merillat name. Our people here noly make $10/per. How much does Michigan or Kentuky make 20$???? Maybe masco should get into the coffin making business. They could still build and finish all there coffins with matching paints form the deceased kitchend. That would really make Martha Stewart happy!!

One thing I find interesting is I haven't seen any news about the Los Lunas plant. There haven't been any layoffs, that I heard of. Are they that busy? Of course this is Merillat/Masco's new multi million dollar baby. It looks like they are taking work from other plants and sending it to Los Lunas. New Mexico gave Masco/Merillat a lot of incentives to build there in exchange for a possible 700 jobs. Masco owes New Mexico big time.

No lay offs in New Mexico. They ae shuuting down the Ocala plant and the adrian michigan plant. The orders will be divereted to the other quality cabinet plants that masco owns. Ocala gave a lot of incentives for merillat to come here as well. Also tax abatements. The land Merillat built on only cost them $1. So once again another city such as Los Lunas, gave Masco alot to bring jobs into the city. I beleive Masco was given 10 yeas tax free in Ocala. They came here, used the people, the city, then shut the doors. They have made millions!!!!In the past years. No sweat off them. I guess that is a smart way to do business. All they have to do is open up shop, then close when the going gets tough.

$ 10.00 per hour?????????? Most of the employees at Mt. Jackson make $14.37 per hour and we're struggling to make ends meet. Many of us have had our pay cut and aren't getting full work weeks. It's sad and it's criminal how Masco is treating the employees.

Sorry that Michigan workers fall to fate as we here in Ocala. only have days left and don't know what to expect each day. we think Ocala doomed
day Karen Straussw took over all of Merrilat. As soon she took over many lay offs began but promotions and new positions at the top began to. It a way for her to thank people that got her to the top. She not even come to Ocala when they come to tell us we don't have jobs soon. She care less for the workers. There are good people at Ocala plant who have nothing by end of October. Of course that not include office people. They only wory bout themselves. To get anywhere at Ocala you brown nose Alice. The more brown nose yo did become area leader. Just ask Shirley an Tommy. Her dapartmant got 2 time longer breaks and 3 time longer lunch. Anyone else in plant leave 3 minute early for lunch and Alice all over there leader but not if you work for Shorley. Tony never wear uniform and broke safety rules but that OK cause he work as team faciltator under Shorley. When Tommy area leader at nites he and buddees harasse anyone they want. no body tell cause told person get fired if report it. An guys wifes who work here also make sure girls stay shut up when harassd. Tommy make Keith team faciltator even tho Keith lowrd for sexual harrasment already. But Alice OK with this as long as Toomy let her use his boat when she want. I hope my next job is not in same place as this group. I hope other Merrilat plants have better leaders then us.

I believe the company will make decision base on profit.however I believe Alice Avery was to egaer to make it ot he top and she step up on alot of people head.Shirley and tommy were ok people tommy dunken was with two ladies and the same time and when Leon try to envistigate Alice cover under the rug.Leon Power was not in control of the plant nor Chad miller alice call the shoots. But really one thing is for sure Alice was very smart for the amount of people that hated Alice regarless of that she made it to he top she was the most dislike person there dont let alice ever worked for masco and Leon needs to learn the ropes and learn a little more there was a lot of things that happen on the florr that never made it to chad miller and that beacause he never took time to go tho the floor he came and went and nothing. If anybody that try take on Alice forget it she easly took them down. what goes around comes around.

If you are going to write about Ocala please PROOF READ! Who is going to believe a word you guys have been saying when you can't even write past a third grade level! I think before you point the finger at others you need to fix your own problems. Maybe this will give you the oppertunity to go back to school to learn the basics. I'd love to see your resumes! No wonder we have issues in Ocala!

What, no one wants to comment that I spelled opportunity wrong? When I asked you to proof read your own letters and I spelled a word wrong that gives you the right to say that I am also an idiot. That is known as a fact. On the other hand when you start writing about people when there is no proof behind it is called fiction. I have been a team member at Merillat for a couple of years and I cannot believe how low some people will stoop to offend people that had no control of the company shutting down. It wasnÂ’t the office people, as you call them; it was people like you and me not buying houses in Florida. The paper writes about it all the time. Again that is based on facts. I just hope that people who have read these letters do not get the wrong impression because of a few fiction writers. I think Merillat has done a wonderful job with this rough transaction and letting us go with dignity. No one bothered to mention how the One Stop Workforce is there every day to help us find another job, or we were paid to go to the college to help us with our resumes and job interview techniques. What other company that has closed down done that for their employees?

Greetings from a former Las Vegas Merillat employee! The Masco corporation will step over a $20 to save a nickel and will only go down in flames. I've felt all of the pain you are experiencing since April of 2007. I'm just glad I got dumped before the economy went totally into the crapper. I only had to take a $4 per pay cut for my new job. The company has a history of "CUT AND RUN" They had a plant in Whatley, Mass that was closed in 1993, Lakeville and Loudonville closed in 2002 or something, then Vegas. I wondered when they would cut Adrian. I had heard rumors last year about it being a dinosaur and Masco wanting to do something about it...I feel for all of you. Good luck and hope for the best for all...except Masco!

Oh yeah, I remember that when the Los Lunas plant opened it was paying $8 per hour. I was making $16 in Vegas...So think about how much cheaper the expenses are for labor and benefits are at $8. Then factor in the land cost and tax benefits...Then factor the Chinese product...Then factor in the quality (or complete lack of) in this new plant and for that matter the Chinese product...

It was us, the employees, who got us laid off. Because of our dedication, years of service and commitment to a crappy job. We earned too much for Masco's bottom line and they have pulled the plug on any good the Merillat name had.

As a former merillat Las Vegas slave, I would love to see the company, not the employees continue to suffer. However, I wished that our plant had closed sooner, because after leaving I really discovered the hell that I had endured for 13 years. Any company that promotes uneducated high school drop-outs after telling associates that a college degree is required, deserves to suffer for their choices. I never saw so many losers promoted by a company. I feel for all the associates that have lost their employment. I wish them luck in finding a position that actually will give them POSITIVE feedback and raises based on hard work, attitude, and knowledge instead of this 'we all make the same wage crap'. There's no reason to support a company that takes advantage of people only to sell crap held together with glue and staples, not workmanship. Tell everyone you know that the merillat name used to stand for quality, but now only stands for statistics and numbers. Sorry Orville for not capitalizing your last name on purpose, masco has already ruined it. Perhaps they will just change the name to Quality Cabinets, wouldn't that be Ironic.
