You did NOT address the point. We ALL have equal opportunities. Your original post intimated that we don't. Life is composed of choices. I believe we ALL know people who pulled themselves out of poor home situations and determined they were going to do better for themselves. I have NO IDEA about your financial position nor do I care. I am simply pointing out the fallacy of your original post about everyone not having equal opportunity.
BTW, you and many dums automatically assume that anyone who defends those who have made better choices in their lives are rich, selfish and evil. Just ANOTHER example of how out of touch YOU are. You are correct. Things AREN'T that simple, friend. I do all of the same things you do in regard to paying taxes, etc, but I don't OWE anyone who doesn't contribute. I, too, want what is best and FAIREST. Herein lies one of the problems. I don't intend to support ne'er do wells. If you want to do that, go for it. Be a chump. I'll fight it every step of the way. I want to CHOOSE whom I help with my hard earned money. Screw those who sit on their butts, game the system and find it amusing that I am taking care of business.
exactly which ne'er do wells do you refer to?

btw,it is not fallacy-it is a comprimise,i suspect we'll both be seeing more of them in the future.

Any one entity, should not be taxed at a different rate, than any other entity. That is not fair.

Very true (and well stated) but the issue is the rate - the same rate/percentage on what we buy (a VAT-type tax) or what we earn (in income from whatever source)?

Ah, a tirade coming on ......

You just hit the "pseudo-patriots" where it hurts.

They don't want the best for all Americans, they want the best for them.

Never, ever ask them to sacrifice for their country, that's for others. They have literally convinced themselves that their own democratically elected government cannot legitimately call on them to pay their fair share, since real Americans don't contribute to America, they take.

That's why they love Reagan - while he amassed deficit after deficit, he never called on Americans to sacrifice anything for anyone.

That's why they love Bush, while he destroyed the Constitution, amassed huge deficits and doubled the debt, started three wars, and after allowing the greatest terror success against America in history, he bravely called on all Americans to come to the aid of the country by .... going shopping.

The new tax bill will make me and my family pay higher taxes. So what, I'm doing OK and, as a true patriots should, we'll pay higher taxes to help us get out of the financial debacle Bush the 2nd created. That's what real patriots do.

And every step of the way, the wealthiest and whiniest will try to convince those with the poorest, that making the rich even richer is the priority. Amazingly, to a great extent, it will work.

Hey, at least it's amusing to read rationales as to why people who live off incomes from billion dollar inheritances should only pay 15% and the rest of us "suckers" should pay twice that tax rate.

And for those who went along with electing and then reelecting Obama and his penchant for spending, you are going to be paying for THAT.(Remember....he was going to "take care" of the middle class.)

CONGESS voted to let the 2% "tax holiday" expire on 01/01/13 when they originally passed the bill - NOT the President.

Yeah, everyone can afford to go to an Ivy League school, or at least a state institution. Everyone has parents who are connected, to insure a high-paying job on graduation. Everyone has the same talent. Everyone can afford to start a business. Everyone has the cash needed to start a business. Everyone has parents who are attentive to their development. Everyone lives in a nice house. Everyone....

Everyone IS created equal, at birth. After that, all bets are off.
