My family enjoyed about 25 years of summers in Schroon Lake. My 5 kids grew up with memories of our "home-away-from-home " As they grew and married, they had a few opportunities to introduce their kids to the most beautiful region in the Adirondacks.

We were regulars at Davis' each summer and occasional visitors in winter months. When Walt and Dot sold Davis', the new owners were not as accommodating nor as friendly. Though we missed Walt and Dot, we tolerated the new owners and continued to enjoy the town and the lake.

Now Davis' is gone. The new "corporation" that bought it plans to put condos and an upscale resort on the property. I think this is exactly the wrong direction for Schroon Lake.

The exclusivity that seems to be planned will not enhance tourism to the town, but will result in a loss of visitors like my family and many other middle class families.

Schroon Lake has always been a wonderful, wholesome place for people to enjoy. With the increase in condos and the conversion of many lakeside areas to private developments Schroon Lake is transforming from a great place to visit to a place exclusively for the few.

From my perspective, in order to increase tourism Schroon Lake needs to focus on developing family-friendly accommodations that are affordable for middle class families.

Not sure if this will work as it really gave me no room to quote. My extended family vacationed in the dacks for at least 40 years but it seemeed that big business would move in and demolish our small cabin spots and ruin them, <y first memory of that was at Woods lake at a little place called Langs and I think Now it's called Lampland? Most recient was at Schroon lake in the small town of Adirondack, WhereRoaring brook cottages were sold to Condo developers, yuck! We used to drive from Virginia so we could enjoy 2 weeks with family in a majestic place, when the small places disssapear to big business you'll always lose that special place that folks would enjoy, I wish the best for that area and will most likely never come back because my memories of there would most likely be destroyed

I am sorry that you feel that way.. suffice it to say there are many of us who agree that the small town feel may be disappearing. I love living here and the appearance of condos hasn't made me happy. I hope we don't out grow ourselves just to find we have nothing but empty buildings that we wern't able to support. I do share your love of this area.

Isn't anything an improvement over the word of life owning and running the town.

To Lawyer....it's not the Word of Life per sey that is ruining this town, it is the slimy hiders that are full of greed and want the town to be their own....investigate it. You'll see. WOL...I am not a fan, but they are not the BIG problem in this one....there are other factors at work here. And to agreeable...there will and are so many empty buildings now because these rich people have made it impossible to stay alive. They have manipulated the government of NYS to help THEM rather than help the small business owner. HOW SAD. I LOVE THIS AREA!!!! Shame on those that say they love it then treat the hard working American Dreamer like dirt and put them under.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Gemini

Mercury will backtrack through your finances over the next few weeks, which isn't a very seasonal thought if you're already well aware that you've overspent this month. Be prepared to do some juggling or to seek expert advice if you're worried about how you're going to cope. You may be kept busy handling inheritance, tax or insurance matters, preparing investment analysis, and allocating funds for the repayment or collection of debts.
