I use to work for a vet. A man came in with a cat. He told how he use to hate cats. He had moved in with someone else that had a cat and didn't realize what a comfort they could be. Next thing you know he got another cat. Maybe you cat haters should try it some time. As long as you have a kitty litter box and food you don't have to walk them like a dog. They are independent, but still very loving. Don't put something down until you've tried it. We've had cats, dogs, goats, chickens and ducks. But each one found their way into our hearts, and you do grieve for them after their gone. I still grieve for a very special dog that I had in my life, and that's been 24 yrs. ago.

Your a good soul and I bet your life is blessed.
You have made me feel so much better.
We've all tried to do our best for the animals.
My husband and I tried to save a dog wandering on the highway. Alas, he was hit and died in my husbands arms. He cried for that lil' guy. Very sad. Of course you can call us stupid for getting in the highway, but we thought we could get him before he was hit.
People need to be more responsible for their pets. Why was he in the highway?
Kudo's to you my new friend! Hope your day is as bright as your soul.
I feel very blessed to have animals in my life. My cats are my kids. I also have a Pug, that turned 12 in April. He's quite a little guy. Pugs have a lot of personality LOL!!! I don't think trying to save an animal is stupid at all. I call that heroic!!!! The hardest thing in the world is losing a pet.

I rescued a kitten that had been so horribly neglected, that her eyes rotted out of her head. By the time I found out about her, and got her out of that horrible situation, her eyes were already gone. I asked the vet what would be best for her? Could she have a good quality of life? He told me yes with help. I told him I didn't know if I could take that on or not. He said if anybody can it's you. I quite literally changed my life around for her. A friend of mine "babysat" her while I was at work. I bought toys that made sounds, so she could play like a normal kitten would. She seemed happy and healthy. Then one day she started vomiting a lot. I took her to the vet, and they ran tests. We were up for 4 days straight with her vomiting. They gave her medicine and fluids. The test came up positive for Feline Leukemia. She was so sick, and she wasn't going to get better. So, I made the hardest decision for a pet owner. I couldn't selfishly hold on to her, I had to let her go. It might sound crazy, but the day I had her euthanized was the worst day of my life.

Apparently , your neighbors have no feelings for you and your zoo, or your private property, that is addressable to the proper authorities. They?Should be able to advise you on the proper proceedures for your area, good luck.I really mean that.
THANKS for the good luck wishes. We called the Humane Society in Toledo over 5 years when this situation first became ridiculous. They said "we get over a 100 phone calls a week about the same thing."
Now that one of the semi-wild cats has clwed me IN MY OWN YARD as I picked the d--- thing up by the nape of the neck to hoist it's a-- over the fence and out of my yard (my dog had cornered it and it was going to attack her--IN HER OWN YARD), a local hospital faxed the report to the Health Department. A follow up phone call to them and they SAY they are going to go after them for feeding wild cats. Since then, I have taken PLENTY of pictures..have found makeshift houses along the back of their home and houses for other cats between the house and bushes..holes cut in garage doors so the cats can run in and out anytime they want. The cat that clawed me and attempted to bite was supposed to be quarantined for 10 days..it was not, but the 2 nuts are keeping them penned up (somewhere), during the day. I see them let them out at night. We have another neighbor in the area that is trapping and shooting them. I informed the Health Dept that coyotes have been seen by the dog warden in a park 10 miles away. The dog warden is not going after the coyotes..they are not a threat to people or medium and large sized dogs. They do, however, go after cats. This park is in a community that has animal trappers and they control THEIR cat population. I don't think it will be long before I hear the SWEET sound of howling coyotes at night. Now NO ONE get upset--this is just nature at work. It appears that cats ARE on the food chain afterall!!(by the way, Health Dept thinks they might take action before we have a coyote problem..)

you mis read my post. I do NOT have my own personal zoo. I have ONE dog, that stays in our yard and poops in OUR yard (maybe I should throw the dogs*** in to their yards??). This is the Toledo Zoo that had to put down a wallabe because it contracted feline leukemia. I do not have wallabees..if I was going to have a "personal zoo," I'd consider a Bobcat, or 2..let THEM roam the neighborhood at night (I'm JUST KIDDING!!..don't jump on me for that--the coyotes are coming to the rescue soon.).

Now, see thats just wrong, the animal control officers need to be there to take over the whole thing. The owners, for lack of a better word. They are responsible for all this mess and have brought all this on themselves. And?In, the long run made the cats the bad guys. Those cats should have been spayed and neutered, that would have cut down on the food and housing.I wonder what they really are doing with those cats? Some people just breed them to sell them to these labs for testing and what not.I think the people should be the ones tested.
The whole thing has gotten out of hand and destruction of your property too. Not, to mention disrupting the neighborhood, with all them cats running scared because they have no clue as to what, they have done wrong.geeez, some people... I hope you have seeked medical attention for those claw marks , they can be very harmful to your immediate health, all that dirt and what not under their claws.I can only imagine what it smells like there.Becareful, of the coyotes, moving in thanks to those idiots.I'd like to shove those people into a cage and see how they would like it.I feel for you, i really do.But, you know what? It's the animals that i feel for they will have to pay the supreme price for being alive, with their lives.Take care okay??

You should never under any circumstance, try to catch a wild animal of any kind!!! That was your first mistake. BTW.... in some areas cats are still considered to be wild animals, and there aren't leash laws in place. Coyotes are not a solution to your problem. They are far more dangerous to your health and well being, than a cat could ever be. Cats don't snatch small children from their yards, and drag them off. Coyotes also carry many diseases like rabies, distemper, Parvo (which can kill dogs) mange and lice, and sometimes in rare instances Bubonic Plague. No, you definitely don't want Coyote action in your neighborhood.

that was my point (I was being sarcastic)..do you think the Health Dept will take action BEFORE the coyotes move in? I was trying to light a fire under the butt..I'm sure the coyotes will, if I can't. By the way, I wasn't going to let the cute "kitty" scratch up my dog.
Yes, it's sad this guy drowned 50 kittens, but if people would spay and neuter their pets and keep them in their house/yard, we wouldn't have this problem or this discussion. It's sad when animals suffer because of the stupidity of humans. In this case, the stupid humans are the original owners who thought it would be cute to let their cat have kittens, then it gets out of hand and stupid owner let's the animal go free and breed all over town. Someone (who doesn't want to, I'm sure) has to be the mean guy and stop it somehow. My vet has SEVERAL posters in his office, listing why pets should be neutered or spayed and this (drowning innocent kittens, born to abandoned, un fixed cats)is one of the reasons. Humane Societies, dog pounds and shelters, across the country, are inudated with such animals. Kudos to those of you who rescue these animals--just make sure to get them spayed and/or neutered and stop the over population problem.

OK....I agree about spaying and neutering. Responsible owners should do that. I don't however agree with the manner that this guy chose, to get rid of the kittens. If the kittens needed to be destroyed, why not a painless method? Why such a brutal course of action? I'm sure the county, or humane society would pay for euthanization. He chose this course of action out of a warped sense of enjoyment. He chose to kill those kittens in a brutal way, because he probably gets off on hurting animals. The guy is sick, sick, sick!!!

This is an Issue which is important to us.You have nothing but hate in your soul and body and want that nasty feeling to spread to others like a virus.I for one do not respect you or your opinions. You must be on the same lower level with this idiot that drowns kittens. You, can either get glad or mad in the same pair of pants or get over yourself and quit trying to pull others toward your hate.

He even runs faster than the other cats LOL!! I never do anything rash, I run out all options, until there's no place left to go. It would have been cheaper to have them take the leg to begin with, but my husband and I try every possible avenue, to avoid doing something so serious, if there's the possibility of a good outcome.
I just wanted to say that this is a beautiful story. Thank you!

The sad part of your story is...Those wonderful animals from another country, that some of us will never get to see, have died because of someone's stupidity and dense-headedness.
I for one have never see a Wallabee up close and personal. The loss of any animal is a loss for mankind. For we , show our lack of knowledge and understanding for our fellow creatures, when "we" lose one of them. Now, with all these disasters going do you think anyone is thinking, of the hurt or injured animals running loose in their countries??
I have stressed they need Education in other countires to better understand themselves. They, need to to learn that we are over populating the earth as it is.The animals are always on the losing end of the list of priorities in the world.

You do have a point.Aboutfarms....most people who purchase an animal do not know how to kill the animal quickly.A club to the head doesn't usually do the job quickly.Maybe her neighbors have done tis before and botched the job.Maybe they beat it to death under the FALSE assumption that it tenderizes the meat.Yeah there are assholes who do that.Ever see a living creature die that way?
i do eat meat, but I don't inflict the death most backyard bar-b-cuers who kill a store bought piece do!

Some people think that all meat comes wrapped up in them fancy packages at the market. Go stay on a farm sometime - learn the hard truth.
Oh, and odds are, there will be barn cats running around too, keeping the mice population down.

You're absolutely right. Education is the only thing that will help. When natural disasters happen, I always wonder if somebody is taking care of the animals. When hurricane Katrina happened, I was overjoyed by how many fine people would rather stay and suffer, than leave their pets.I remember sitting, and crying when they finally sent people, to save the animals. I would have stayed, and suffered if I couldn't take my pets.I would rather die with my pets, than let them die alone.
