Pilot of crashed chopper 'lived, breathed' aviation

Aircraft enthusiast Joseph Pike flew thousands of hours as a flight instructor, a Mercy Air pilot and a contractor flying helicopters for the U.S. Forest Service.

I will never forget Joe. He allowed me to live at his house with him and his mother. I felt like I had a second family. Joe was one of those guys that one reflects on with great memories about how cool he was. I remember his fantastic mechancial abilities. He built a beautiful custom motorcycle from odd parts and his own ingenuity. He always had a great attitude and always there with a smile.

Joe was my first flight instructor. He was a great guy and an excellent pilot. He was not a risk taker at all. I'll miss ya Joe.

Joe was a excellent flight instructer, mechanic and a friend.
I worked with Joe at GE from 1976 till the closing of the Iron plant. He was someone that I would fly with anytime as he knew what he was doing and he didn't take risks.
Linda and I send our prayers to Joe's fanily and friends. He left he mark on everyone he knew.
