I don't think it's Rempke as much as the Kroger Marketplace Super Store going in on 237. What I can't understand is why they would close the newr store and leave the old dilapidated one(right across from the soon - to - be Kroger) open?

1. It is Remke not Rempke...or Rumpke for that matter. 2. What did Remke do wrong other than being the survivor? Consumers choose with their feet. 3. I don't know but would guess the old store is still profitable. Speaking to people in the know, it has a dying (literal) yet loyal clientele that would not cross I-275 to visit the new store but still visit the old. 4. How can a store that is not open (Kroger) put Flick's out of business? If Flick's was still marginally profitable but saw the writing on the wall...it still makes sense to stay open at least until Kroger opens, right?

I knew it was Remke(spelling) butseriously the old Flick's reminds me of the old Thriftway I worked at in Western Hills about 14 years ago. They had a blue-haired clientele and when Winn-Dixie took over everyone said they would remain loyal, and most did. But alot went to Kroger and Biggs and the old T-way was soon out of business. The writing is on the wall for Flicks I'm afraid. After the new Kroger opens, I'll bet their deli and meat dept makes more money than the whole Flicks store does in a week!

Not necessarily, I would rather have Flick's meat and fruit any day of the week compared to Kroger's. The thing that put Flick's out of business is that they are a small market. Why spend more money shopping there when you can get it much cheaper by going to Wal-mart or Meier's? The economy is such that people just can't afford to shop there and pay the higher prices. I love that store, but simply could no longer afford to shop there for most things. Wal-Mart and Meijer's fruit and meat pretty much bite!

I loved Flick's meat department and hot bar. Great variety and great food. Still buy my meats from the small store on Rt. 20. It's such a shame the smaller stores are run out by the larger chains because they can't compete by getting the volume discounts on their food purchases. Kroger and Remke both have high prices but somehow still seem to get the business.
