18-Wheeler Crashes Into Grand Prairie Home

There are 27 comments on the CBS 11 story from Jun 7, 2008, titled 18-Wheeler Crashes Into Grand Prairie Home. In it, CBS 11 reports that:

At first, Steve Fedorko thought lightning hit his front yard. "It sounded like a huge bomb."

An 18-wheeler drove through his door a few seconds later.

The accident happened around 3:00 a.m. Saturday. The driver, Brandon Ray Tillmon, had just picked up a load of clean linens destined for Methodist Hospital in Dallas when he lost control of the rig on Carrier Parkway in Grand Prairie.

Investigators say Tillmon had no chance of escaping, he was pronounced dead on scene.

Grand Prairie Police are still trying to figure out what caused Tillmon to lose control. The truck ran up into the yard, hitting a tree before bursting into flames.

Hey Brandon, I thought of you today. Remember "let's go get some gum". I wish I could have told you half of the things I felt. I am sure already knew. I know you are looking down on us and smiling that gorgeous smile. Continue to look after us.

Missing you

Hey Brandon, I cried yesterday. This month has been really rough for me. Everything reminds me of you. Chili's, the soup at Olive Garden, high school football games, the car wash. I am so glad that we were able to reconnect, even if it was complicated. I replsy a lot of things you would say to me. Although it msde me mad at the time. I understand what you were trying to do. You were and always will be special to me.
Can't stop thinking of you

"Grand Prairie Police are still trying to figure out what caused Tillmon to lose control."

Who is stupid here, the police or the media, protecting a law that allows truckers to drive an outrageous number of hours without sleep.

It's easy to figure this one out: THE DRIVER FELL ASLEEP!

Robert, you don't have enough information to come to that conclusion.

Robert the guy had just reported to work a few minutes before the wreck. What he did on his own time before is one of the few things that is not regulated by the government pertaining to commercial drivers. Well unless you consider the random drug tests that carriers are required to perform on drivers. Carriers must drug test a certain percentage of their drivers annually. I believe it is at or near 50% of their drivers.

Commercial drivers are limited to 11 hours driving within a 14 hour window. Which means when they start their day they have a 14 hour window to work BUT at the 14th hour they must stop. It sounds like a long day but after that they must stop for 10 hours before resuming. That is it in a nutshell but their are a few other factors involved that will leave you confused and missing the point. Now really 10 hours might seem like a lot of hours but I and many other drivers sleep a solid eight hours a night and I feel I could drive 15 but I am not allowed to so I don't. I and other drivers also posses the ability to know when to pull over long before fatigue causes any danger. Nothing on my truck, no matter how important it is to you and Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes etc , will be delivered in an unsafe manner.

Most trucking companies do everything in their power to ensure the motoring public's safety as well as the drivers. Many of the larger carriers will terminate any driver that breaks the rules after a few infractions. The smaller companies cannot afford to have a bad wreck because they will be unable to recover from the punitive damages.

Yes their are bad apples out here, I see them more than I would like to BUT just know that little do you know when a truck is tailgating you in their car more than likely it is another truck driver calling his company to report him, not to mention reminding him how stupid he is on the CB. These are the same drivers that sit around saying "MAN truckers don't get no respect." Tailgating in a commercial vehicle is considered "wreckless driving" and your chances of future employment are nil to none. But all in all the laws are their to protect you and not all of us are bad apples.

Okay, so now you are implying that he was under the influence? I knew Brandon, and he was not a drug user nor was he a "bad apple". Please be mindful that his love ones may be reading this forum, and find some of these comments disrespectful.

Oh no I was not implying that. No Ma'am. I am extremely sorry I came across that way.

People like Robert think the only purpose of trucks is to kill people. I was trying to explain to him that they are not there to ruin his day.

Again I am sorry. I am a horrible writer, yes. But I never intended to convey a message like that.
