In early July we took our dog to our regular Vet Dr. Louis Calabrese for evaluation because he was limping on his left hind leg. Dr. Calabrese evaluated the dog and stated that he suspected the dog may have an injured or torn cruciate, and that we needed to take him to have x-rays as Dr. Calabrese did not have the capability of doing x-rays.
On July 13th we took our dog to South Jefferson Veterinary Hospital for an evaluation and x-rays, my wife explained to Dr. Diane Ferry that our vet suspected a torn cruciate, and we needed x-rays to further evaluate Dr. Calabrese’s suspicions of an injured cruciate.
Diane Ferry examined our dog and stated to my wife that there was nothing wrong with him other then he was overweight and had arthritis in his left hip. Her suggestion was diet and exercise. After a follow up visit to our normal vet he strongly disagreed with Dr. Ferry’s findings and asked us to have her mail the x-rays to him. After Dr. Calabrese evaluated the x-rays sent by Dr. Ferry he called me and stated that due to poor positioning and poor quality of her x-rays (that did not even show the joint in question) that he had no idea how she arrived at her prognosis, and that he strongly disagreed with her findings. At that time Dr. Calabrese suggested that we take our dog to Upstate Veterinary Surgical Center for more x-rays.
At that time I called Dr. Ferry and told her that our vet did not agree with her findings, and that he thought her x-rays were of poor quality and positioning. I actually at that time was seeking to have the x-rays redone, but never got that far into the conversation as Dr. Ferry cut me off and stated,“then your vet should have taken his own x-rays.” She then stated she was not interested in seeing our dog again.
On August 4th, I took our dog, along with the x-rays from Diane Ferry to Dr. Paul F. Bookbinder at Upstate Surgical Center. After looking at the x-rays he stated “these x-rays are of no use, they don’t even show the joint in question, I will have to take more x-rays.”
After taking x-rays and evaluating our dog Dr. Bookbinder said that the dog did have a torn cruciate, suggested surgery and stated that following Dr. Ferry’s instructions to exercise the dog could do more damage to the joint.
I then wrote to Dr. Ferry to report the findings from Dr. Bookbinder and requested a refund of what we paid her. Her reply was no refund, the dog must have injured himself after her was here.
I suggest her hap hazard practice and don‘t give a shit attitude is a menace to the public who depend on her to be a professional, and she should not be allowed to practice.
