Cannot say I hated Adak, though I did come to appreciate the sun a lot more. Would also like to go back for a visit though I am fairly sure a walk through the ruins of the Commsta would be a bit depressing.

Spent 93 wonderful? days on Adak; Aug 1971 to Nov 1971, TDY from Tinker AFB, Ok. Our radio site talked to Amchitka, then linked up to the WA site; we were there to support the AEC when the 3rd Nuke went off underground in November of 1971 (didn't feel a thing, when it went off!). Our 1K watt MRC-98 transmitters were like pre-amps to the WA system; they were using I believe 50K watt transmitters. Our site was kinda across from the ski lodge; never did go up there. Saw lotsa WWII munitions here and there, but we were young and dumb... Fond memories now...
