Wentz said most of the partygoers received a "big break" because they could have been charged with underage drinking, which carries a much stiffer penalty if convicted.
lol @ big break , must be cause they are educated and go to college, forget the underage drinkers that dont go to college, o hell naw, give them the charge, lol ((smh)) |

How3 come some can get a big break while others get the book thrown at them? Big breaks only come if you a "big white."

The truth is that justice isn't all that just. The truth is that if you are dressed nicely and well-groomed you will be treated differently (better) than someone who isn't. The truth is that if you are coherent and well-spoken you will be treated better than if you are slurring your words or speaking in some dialect that is difficult-to-impossible to understand. The truth is police are somewhat hesitant to ruin the life of someone who has set some goals and is actually doing something about accomplishing them. So, yes, the possibly white college students got cut some slack! Yep. Not EVERYTHING is black and/or white.

Why were they cut a break? Could it be because you lose your right to a Drivers lic. for a year?I had a son, at the age of 20, that was at a picnic that they had a keg, he got an underage just for being in the prescence of alcohol, and he wasnt drinking. He lost his Lic. for a year. And to this day he still doesnt drink. So whats up Wentz????

this is all bullshit. if you can die for your country at 18, you can drink. Go get the murders and drug dealers and leave the people having fun and not bothering anyone alone. no other state does the stuff that this bullshit state does. law enforcment around here is rediculous. im glad to know im more likly to get away with murder in the city then i am with drinkin a beer.

I am a concerned parent who sent my daughter to York College for a positive experience and education. This is the 3rd or 4th time police have targeted college students for law violations in the past few weeks. I have spoken with many of these kids and they say the police are rude, sarcastic, and looking to harass them. They even roughed up a couple of kids saying "because we can." Many parents are considering pulling their children from a town that is targeting college kids. College students see drug dealers, drunks, and gangs of town kids in the streets. Nothing is done about this. Maybe the York newspapers should talk to the kids and their parents and publish their opinion about what is going on. Although kids should not be drinking underage, police in York should learn to deal with these kids in a positive way like many other college town police do. Instead of looking to the police as role models, they are scared of them, and fear what might happen next. I am implore the College Administration and the Town newspapers to foster a better relationship and understanding between the kids and the police......A concerned parent

This is new how? C'mon folks, this is binge drinking, college and high school students have been doing it for years. The only difference is these kids were stupid enough to be bold about it and make a bunch of noise in the process. And they were warned and didn't back off. Seems to me it's a lesson in the stupidity of youth, hopefully some of them will take it to heart.

nynn We have also sent our kid to York only to find out the hard way. These college students are indeed targeted not just by the police, but by a host of crimes against them. We know of two students that had a gun put to their heads in their own back door while getting robbed, another female student attacked while walking down the street, and many broken windshields from the car robberies. This is simply not a good environment to be in. I believe we are at the end of the rope and will move our student on to a more secure college environment elswhere. |

Rock on Wentz! We love what you are doing to clean up the city!

"Police targeting students," Yeah, UNDERAGE DRINKING STUDENTS. Let's stress the underage part. Lest we forget the underage students that have passed away due to over drinking at York College. Those tragedies should have NEVER happened. Officer Wentz is trying to prevent further endangering of health. Best to nip this in the bud before York Hospital gets MORE Alcohol poisonings. Students have to be accountable too. Stop getting upset for the students- hopefully they will learn from this Life Lesson.

Hey, I used to spend my summers in Selden Long Island, 1949 to 1963. It was all COUNTRY back then. Very few people and all forest. The only McDonalds around was one on the way to Selden. None in NYC. |

Don't you think that younger people who are feeling their oats & trying new things away from the discipline of their parents homes SHOULD have a certain amout of fear for the police? I know when I was collleg aged (about 20 years ago), the fear of getting caught doing anything illegal kept me respectable, not that it always kept me from doing wrong but it sure kept me in line a lot more than my friends did.

It's obvious that the parents are getting their story second hand as it pertains to the York City Police. It is time for everyone, no matter where you live, to take responsibility for their actions. It is time to stop passing the buck and realize that the students broke the law and that there are repercussions to their actions. Parents should stop trying to point the finger at the police and start teaching their children right from wrong. If you are inder 21 it is illegal to drink, period. If your son or daughter gets caught, then they should take their lumps. Stop making excuses for your children they are not perfect. They make errors in judgement all the time, and they should learm from those errors and not have mommy and daddy bail them out or place blame on someone else.
