I think this is crazy! Some people cannot get a licence and are just trying to work and feed their children without well fare. I think if these senators are so concerned they would come up with a hardship licence for people legal or illegal to drive only to and from work. Not try to ruin thier lives by putting felonys on their records so the judges don't have to see them in court, that is why they became judges TO SEE PEOPLE IN COURT!

If you don't have a license don't drive, it's that simple.

Putting unlicensed drivers in jail a fair punishment and all people in jail will have their status checked. This is a good thing a very good thing!

What's the problem. When an American citizen drives, they must have the appropriate state license. If you move from one state to another, you have to give up your license for the previous state, and get a license for your new home state. Only the military are exempt. People who can't get driver's licenses should not be driving. Contrary to what the illegal aliens and their supporters say, driving has ALWAYS been a PRIVILEGE in the U.S., NOT a right.

Driving is NOT a right, in Mexico and Central America, either

Not just a good thing because of checking status. We have a huge percentage of unlicensed/uninsured drivers here not just illegal aliens either. Our insurance rates are unbelieveable. Plus we have a very good Mass Transit, both train and bus, system that anyone not having a license could use and at this point and time would be a lot cheaper than trying to pay for gas to run a car.

I've seen several times on the news where habitual problem drivers have been given multiple chances like the one you speak of. Many times it ended in someone elses death because the person that stood in court and promised to only drive to work didn't abide by his promise. Get a license & insurance. I'm tired of paying for yours and mine!!

This story is so old, this proposal has passed already. Now we just have to wait for the governor to sign it and it's a done deal. So, is it just me or has anyone else suddenly noticed people driving TOO slow?

Like we really care, what you think!! GA's doing what it takes to protect it's legal citizens in a lot of areas of the law now. Leave us alone and we'll do the same for you. I just pray that some unlicensed/uninsured driver never takes the life of anyone of your loved ones. You would surely change your tune then, I bet.

ILLEGAL ALIENS shouldn't be here, in the first place, much less working.

She's in Monroe. She probably hasn't had to deal with it like the rest of us, or she has a personal reason to want an unqualified or illegal person to have a license. My best guess is Paula lost her license a long long time ago.

Good one--You must not have been out on 285, 85 or 75 lately. I surely haven't noticed any slow down but we can always hope. If this is insentive to slow folks down then the Gov needs to sign it quick!!

Hello genius. It becomes a felony after the THIRD offense. Now if you can't get it by the third time you get busted, you are too stupid to be allowed to live anyway. Understand? Only someone who's not allowed to drive would think this is racist. So which are you? An illegal or a multiple DUI?

LOL..I made the mistake of driving to the airport today from Gwinnett. Downtown was a different story. But here, I swear they are poking along. I'm sure the intention is to not draw attention to themselves, but as usual, their ideas backfire. They don't understand there's such a thing as going TOO slow.
The bad part is the governor is not known for his willingness to sign this bill, so it may be a bit of a struggle. My understanding is it sailed through, so if a veto override becomes needed, I think it can be done.

Yeah, some of the brilliant people don't realize there is usually a minimum limit too, especially on the highways. Let's just give the Gov's office a call and tell him what we want!!

The best thing all of us can do is to call and keep calling. Make yourself known to your representative. Make yourself known to your Congressman. Make yourself known to your Senators. Chambliss loves to try and blow you off, but keep at him, and eventually his staff gets the message. I know that both him and Isakson would love to vote in favor of Tyson and their illegal workforce, but if we stay on them, and they want to keep their job, they listen. Chambliss is coming up for reelection and he wants to keep his cushy position, so let's make him work for it. Even when there's no urgent bill that needs our attention, we have to stay on them so they know we have not forgotten and moved on. So many people here are terrified of being called a racist, they will keep their mouths shut no matter what. I don't know how bad it is in Roswell, but here in Gwinnett, it has become a total nightmare. Roswell was my stomping ground in my younger days, as well as Gwinnett. Now, the places I felt safe in at 3 in the morning are so bad you couldn't pay me to be there at 3 in the afternoon. If we value our hometowns and want them to be safe and keep our streets safe, we have to back these bills 100%. And what's the secret? Make yourself heard. And that concludes my lecture for tonight...lol.
