Immigration laws are federal. Martha Coakley is the state Attorney General. The agencies that enforce the immigration laws, the US Customs and Immigration Service and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement do not report to her. Only the US Attorney and US Department of Justice Attorneys can convene a federal grand jury, which is how most charges in federal court are initiated. Only the federal agencies can impose civil fines, demand to see immigration-related business records or access most immigration files, which are maintained by the federal agencies. In Immigration Court, the government is represented by attorneys from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the judges are from the US Department of Justice. If a state prosecutor showed up there, they would be shown the door.
There you are again. Confusing them with facts.
How are you today?

wow! i'm amazed at reading these vitriolic remarks about the slow growth initiative. Sure the mailings are harsh, but its a free country, right?
Opposition is part of a healthy democracy!
I am especially surprised and concerned about the remarks intimating secular humanism is a bad thing and that women should not have the right to birth control if they want it. These notions are positively neanderthal!
How can humanism be a bad thing? What on earth are you arguing for?!
You know what the opposite of allowing people to choose and make their own decisions is called? Fascism!
From what I've seen most of the people who are upset at the Slow Growth Initiative don't give a damn about the future or the rule of law.
You all certainly do not respect opinions outside of your own--which is the antithesis of what it means to be truly American. Just a bunch of insiders protecting their feudal domain and self interests. You are upset that the slow growth group is calling you out and drawing attention to the malfeasance and insider deals in Chelmsford.
You're seriously deluded if you think we can really grow forever and that its a good idea to pave all of massachusetts. Their message is a good one and in the future will garner more support, while most of these other comments are disappointingly narrow minded and extremely outdated. Wake up!

For the record your diatribe above is an example of why people in Chelmsford and beyond are upset at SGI. It is not what you say, it is how you say it. It is very much okay to disagree with another person, but that never entitles you to belittle or personally attack another human (derivative of humanism). There is no excuse for SGI to attack public officials and employees of Chelmsford. If you treat someone with respect, you might be surprised. In consideration of SGI's past action and behaviour , SGI has not earned the RESPECT of the community of Chelmsford. Try apologizing then ask for forgiveness if you want to make nice and work with the Town of Chelmsford.

Isn't it strange that once they lose their source of funding they want to work "with the town". Hogwash. They have no other way to work now, so they are resorting to this method. Don't buy it. If they still had their funding, they'd be back to the mailings.

Let them fade away into the distance.

They have only lost access to donations very temporarily. They need to register with the state, which is a simple process. Complete and mail in a short form and you are registered. Thereafter, annually file a very simple report. Unless they are completely incompetent, shouldn't take more than a couple of days to get back to doing what they are doing.

They seem a bit strange, but hey, it is a big country and the First Amendment protects all ideas, not just popular ones. Although mass mailings, which consume lots of paper which comes from deforestation seems a bit off message for them. Maybe they could think of more eco-friendly ways to do outreach.
