The only reason why Benson isn't bringing "political supporters" into the district is because who wants to be seen with Coakley, Patrick or any other Democrat incumbent?

Or maybe the real reason is she HAS a public record to run on while Mr. Hayes doesn't. That she has made the difficult choices and cast tough votes while Mr. Hayes never has, not even in his own town.

Mr. Hayes is so clearly coat-tailing if ever I've seen it. He has no public service experience and he is just running off of others' experience. Not a strong statement for a candidate.

She does have a public record, her VOTING record which will help her NOT get re-elected! Hayes is very open about how he will vote, attend one of his town hall forums. Has Benson EVER held one of these and answered questions from voters in public??

I've been to two of Mr. Hayes "town hall forums" and they were not very well-attended.(one had only 7 or 8 people) They were informative however:

(1) like how, if elected, he will continue to work part-time at IBM, a large employer in the state. How convenient for IBM to have an employee as a State Rep. who, by gosh, just wants to make things "easier" for business. I want a full-time representative who will represent me, not one who will be distract by private corporate employment and its interests.

(2) like how he is "not a bystander", but someone who has to get "involved", yet he has never served on any committee, board or commission, elected or appointed in his own town while living there for 15 years (or so). That doesn't demonstrate an "involved" public-service oriented person to me.

It is easy to SAY how you would vote on matters (especially on matters that have already been voted upon). The difficulty is in making choices on legislation that is before you at the time. Mr. Hayes has no experience facing that and has no track record, so there is NO way of knowing how we WOULD/WILL vote in those matters. Put in casino terms, it would be a real crap shoot. That is why a public record and public experience is crucial.

To me, Jen Benson is the only real choice in this race.

Kurt, what experience do you have in government - local, state or National?

Thanks,
Ken

Scott Brown said that it was important for him to be in the senate so we would have both parties checking and balancing each other. But now he wants all republicans to win? I'm confused, he couldn't have been maybe, lying to us?

The real issue is her voting record. I am not concerned that Mr. Hayes has local elected official experience or not, I actually think that is a good thing. If everyone at the state house has that kind of experience, why is the state in such a mess? If you are going to blame the Republicans, who is in control of the house, the senate and the corner office? Looks like Kurt Hayes should be the winner in this race.

As someone who became active in politics as a local elected official on the Lunenburg School Committee, I see my base as the people of the district towns, rather than the national or state party machine

What joke you are Jen...you vote the Dem hack line 100% of the time!!!

I asked Benson a question once at the Town meeting regarding Unitil, she refused to answer...seems she can't think on her own without those party lines around her telling her how to vote and what to say...

Maybe she (gasp) actually didn't know the answer. It's unlike the republican style - throw a nice little Arnold Schwarzeneggar one-liner at people to make them applaud whether you know about the issue or not.

Problem is that when you do that sometimes you end up with imbecillic moments like:

"mission accomplished"

"As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border."

"beheadings in the desert."

I'll take an elected official that needs to think first, thanks.

That is just outright nonsense. I can say unequivocally that there is NO WAY Rep. Benson REFUSED to answer your question. She may not have known the answer, or she may have wanted to research the answer and get back to you but she would NEVER flat-out refuse to answer a legitimate question.(a riduculous or inappropriate one would be a different story).

Is it true that Hayes has never served in any local, county or state elected or appointed position?

I have little use for Benson but she is "out there" on issues whether I agree with them or NOT.

Hayes looks like a bit of an opportunist to me. Republicans can be "hacks" too! Scott Brown hasn't been any great shakes either!

In business most people have to work their way to the top, not marry the "bosses" daughter.

Thanks Jen Benson, I guess only you would know. I have heard she only answers emails and phone calls if she likes the question.

It is true.
If Rep.Benson can put this much time into trying to pump herself up for show on these forums and act like the seriousness of her job is really just a popularity contest, then she really NEEDS to go back to grade school. Take your little group of friends and cry on their shoulders but honestly..there are far too many serious issues facing people and the uneducated and out of touch approach doesn't get the job done. You should be ashamed of that and how you treat people, especially for someone that worked in retail and may end up back there soon enough.

You are a left wing nut job! I can't wait to vote you out...

You guys can't seem to ever get the facts right. I am definitely not Rep. Benson.

I would agree, however, that there are serious issues facing the people of this district...and Rep. Benson has spent the better part of 8 years addressing those issues. First locally, as an elected School Committee member, as a member of the Lunenburg Capital Committee and Lunenburg Charter Review Committee and as our State Representative. During that time, her opponent, who you seem to support, has done ABSOLUTELY NO PUBLIC SERVICE. NONE. ZERO.

Is that your idea of how the job gets done?
