Global warming is junk science. Natural cycles of the earth won't be changed by Al Gores opinion. I believe in recycling, conservation and clean power and energy. Junk science even if forced upon us won't make any difference!

1) Calling it "junk science" doesn't make it so.

2) The legislation to restrict carbon emissions is a good step regardless of what any given person *believes* about the scientific principles on which the AGW theories are based.

Why? That makes no sense.

Most of North America used to be covered by a glacier. It wasn't there when the pilgrims arrived. Am I the only ones that sees a warming trend going back further than Exxon-Mobil?

"When carbon dioxide is absorbed by the
oceans it reacts with seawater to form carbonic
acid. Ocean acidification, as the phenomenon
is called, over time will create major negative
impacts on corals and other marine life, with
anticipated adverse consequences for fishing,
tourism, and related economies.

Ocean acidification and climate change are
both effects of excessive carbon dumping into
the atmosphere. While climate change encom-
passes the varied impacts resulting from the
greenhouse effect, ocean acidification is a
straightforward chemical response to carbon
dioxide emissions, and is measured and predict-
ed with a high degree of certainty.

Over the past 200 years the oceans have
absorbed 525 billion tons of carbon dioxide from
the atmosphere, or nearly half of the fossil fuel
carbon emissions over this period. This natural
process of absorption has benefited humankind
by significantly reducing the greenhouse gas
levels in the atmosphere and thus minimizing
some impacts of global warming. However, the
ocean’s daily uptake of 22 million tons of
carbon dioxide is starting to take its toll on the
chemistry of seawater."

I'm sure Gore's crusade to reduce carbon has nothing to do with him being the chairman and a stockholder of a company that deals in carbon offsets.

What is trading of carbon offsets?
Is it the trading of a promise?
Is it purely a financial instrument?

Sounds a lot like the subprime mortgage business.
Who in their right mind would invest in this?

I would rather invest in company X who manufactures fuel cells.

It is only a matter of time that Al Gore is exposed as the world's greatest snake oil salesman.

Is someone trying to tell you how to invest?

What does business and investing have to do with the scientific consensus that dumping 525 Billion tone of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere is causing ecological damage?

Hee hee. Funny, but climate change corresponding to "global warming" does not stop winter.

"Would a temperature increase of several degrees really be significant to global climate? Yes. Even a modest rise of 2 to 3 degrees Fahrenheit would represent a huge amount of warming. Keep in mind that in the last 10,000 years, the earth's average temperature hasn't varied by more than 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit. The secondary effects of this kind of warming on our global climate could be quite dramatic.

An increase of a few degrees in average surface temperature wouldn't necessarily be experienced uniformly. Particular regions would experience the effects of global warming more profoundly than others. Some might suffer changes in the amount of rainfall received, a climate dislocation that could severely affect the world's agriculture and forests.

Rising temperatures could also cause a rise in sea level of 20 or more inches. Such a change could result in the loss of beaches and coastal wetlands and flooding of coastal areas."

re" Funny, but climate change corresponding to "global warming" does not stop winter.

You can't do better than that? We are well into April and I can still see some snow on the ground. I am not a young person and never remember seeing snow on the ground (requires cold) for this long. Of course one season does not make a trend.

The more I read about this subject the more skeptic I become, the more I feel we have dumbed down science to fit the desired outcome. I feel global warming is more about politics than science.

Almost every day we are told something is good or bad for us only to find out later that the opposite is true. Now we are forced to use those compact florescents knowing full well they contain mercury, possibly the highest risk element that exists. I have probably broken 4-5 of them and worry what would the impact be to young children when that happens at other places.

Now we have learned that Ethanol production especially from grain is doing more harm than good! Taking into consideration the impact on food prices says to me scientists need to go back to school. OOPS thats another discussion.

The problem I have with global warming is that in the end I feel there is going to be more harm done than good by those who indeed have the greatest of intentions. By harm I mean more death and starvation in the poorest of nations. AND the most ironic situation is that it doesn't matter if you beleive in global warming or not the high energy prices are driving us to alternatives that will make co2 burning irrelevant.

That is so weird. You said the more you read up on AGW the more skeptical you are about it, but then go on to cite snow on the ground in early April to refute the notion of global warming, which seems to indicate that you have not read very much on the subject at all.

Anyhoo, I agree about the cost of energy driving people to seek the use of renewables regardless of their politically motivated predisposition regarding climate change.

Trading carbon offsets means Al Gore can keep his mansion at eighty degrees all winter while the average joe keeps his apartment at fifty five. Carbon offsets means Al Gore can travel in a motorcade of SUVs while the average Joe rides a bicycle or takes public transport. Carbon offsets means Al Gore can jet all over the globe spewing his leftist pap while the average Joe can't afford to fly to Disney World for a vacation because they just bought an Al Gore approved hybrid car for fifty thousand dollars more than it is worth.
