Cory...if you are for real...I wouldn't brag about being a Senior in any school...you can't even make complete sentences. |

I second MOM's comment about Cory - Not the type of person we need in Wilmington.
Back to the point - Just moved here from Tewksbury last year almost entirely because of the declining school system in Tewksbury. Sad that a Sr. center is more important than schools. Too bad the Sr's don't realize what Tewksbury is becoming. I don't see any benefit to Wilmington either. I went to a regional school but it consisted of very small towns. It made sense due to size. The only benefit would be for Tewksbury. |

In the next few years we will get a taste for what can happen when political fifedoms win over common sense.
The city of Newton population 73,000 with one of the best high school in the COUNTRY (yes most expensive but brand new) educates more children than Wilmington and Tewksbury combined. The last bastion of mismanagement thru fifedoms is Massachusetts, every town needs it's own school system with all the beaurocracy that comes with it. What a waste of taxpayers money. Every town needs a Supertendent with staff, Special Needs department with staff, a guidence department with staff,on and on. The reality is we can no longer afford all this spending. Did anyone ever hear of economy of scale. It's cheaper per pupil to educate 8000 students than 4000 students. Think of the taxpayers money we could save by combinining efforts and dollars. The best school systems have great AP and Honors programs with affordable Special Needs. It can't be done with smaller systems. Outside of Taxachusetts almost every State uses a regional school system. Shawsheen Tech is an example of success. Yes it costs more per student, but just think if Wilmington or Tewksbury had to provide the programs available at the Tech, the cost would be 3x as much. In the next five years choices will be made unless we start thinking out of the box future children will pay for our inability to adjust to the real world. Opertunity rarely knocks when it goes unanswered we only say coulda woulda shoulda. |
