Good proposal, one of the few things Uncle Sam has that is actually good for the country.

I do not understand why there has to be a time limit at all for when these veterans can receive this benefit. Does anyone know why the time limit is there?

I used up all my GI Bill and Army College Fund, which was a big help in paying for my two degrees. However, along with extending the amount of time for veterans to use their GI Bill, I know alot of veterans who wish they could pass on their GI Bill money to there kids. They have no use for the money but wish they could use it to pay for there kids education.

My understanding is that the timelimit was imposed under the current version, the Montgomery GI bill.

Removing the timelimit would be helpful to a small minority but overall wouldn't change very much. It still doesn't pay us enough money if someone has a family and a home.

That is the primary reason my buddies aren't using it, they flat out can't afford to. They definetly won't be able to afford to 20 years from now with kids in college.

In Hawaii it would barely cover the rent and food. It's a nice bit of money but if my parents weren't helping me there's no way I could afford to go to school here.

Mainlanders have the opposite problem, cost of living is low but schools are 2x 3x 4x as much.

I agree with this article; those who went there and served the country should have more time to take that education benefits. The 10 years that is given is not enough for those who are starting to readjust to being with civilians after a year deployment to the war zone and to help anyone when they return. They risk a lot fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan; they should be rewarded more time or unlimited time to receive their well-deserved education benefits to help their family with education. Like those who fought in World War II, they should have the same.

veterans should not receive any extra time or special consideration of any kind... this is an all-volunteer force...no one is required to serve... the only veterans that deserve any entitlements are the veterans who were drafted....the draft ended in 1973....anybody that desires to serve in the military has to know that there are many americans that do not support the governments agenda of empire building....or of the death of countless innocent civilians in all government sponsored wars...and the destruction that these governments create with their militaries...a young person would serve our nation by going to the golf courses and striving to be a tiger woods or going into the financial field and become another Bill Gates or Warren Buffet...stay out of the military....

Many foolish comments, especially:

"Going to the golf courses and striving to be a Tiger Woods"

You have got to be kidding. For one thing, Mr. Woods is one of a kind. He worked very hard for most of his life to get to where he is today as a golfer. His father, who incidentially was an Army veteran, was instrumental in pushing him and teaching him to be the best that he can be.

FYI - The senior Mr. Woods nicknamed his son Tiger after a friend who was a fellow Army veteran.

Maybe you diss the military because you yourself COULD NEVER HANDLE the demands, discipline, pressure and stress of a military career?

Those that serve in the United States Armed Forces serve proudly AND sacrifice more than you could ever begin to comprehend.

So, as I said in my "name," STFU.

And stay right where you are. The rubber truck is coming to pick you up.

You sir need to realize that you live in the greatest nation that ever existed and it is solely due to the "all volunteer" force that you have that priviledge. Should you not like our beloved Nation, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MOVE!

And by the way... your advice to become the next Tiger Woods was spot on. In the last 5 years he has proven to be a great American with distinguished morals and great ethical standards. Your ability to determine who the great leaders of our nation are and how they should behave are second to none. Let me guess...you voted for Obama too!
