Teacher accused of slighting Mexico flag

Associated Press TWIN FALLS, Idaho - A high school student says his physical education teacher took a Mexican flag he had brought to school for Cinco de Mayo and put it in the garbage.

Where in the article does it say the kid was illegal? I think xenophobic morons should be deported before the illegal aliens.

As for having no obligations to a foreign flag... this is true. However that doesn't mean totally disrespecting the flag by storing it with the trash. Americans get angry when foreign countries burn the American flag and then they show no respect towards other cultures. No wonder the world thinks we're all ignorant.

Foreign flags may be displayed with the American flag by law. The flags are to be displayed on separate staffs and at the same height. This is the rule in peace time. We are at peace with Mexico, despite the hateful responses from posters.

While this occurrence did not involve a formal display of the Mexican flag, it would suggest that the teacher's behavior was totally inappropriate and he is probably deserving of disciplinary action, not praise.

There is NOTHING to be gained by inflammatory comments or actions -- unless one considers inciting more hostility profitable.

I could care less if a different country disrespects the American flag. This is AMERICA NOT MEXICO no matter how much you liberal would like it to be AMEXICO.

Im in full support of that PE teacher and he did the American thing, the richous thing, the patriot thing. That flag was nothing more then a LA RAZA political statement.

You dont know what you talk about, first off May 5th isnt Mexican independance day and second the Confederate flag is still the flag of the south no matter how much you liberals dont like it.

It doesnt matter what the flag means, who cares if its a Confederate flag or a Nazi Germany flag. You liberals cant pick and choose what falls under the 1st Amendment.

If that kid can bring a Mexican flag to school then another kid has every right to bring a Confederate flag to school or any flag he wants.

The issue was not whether the student was about to do jumping jacks while waving a foreign flag. The issue is how the teacher handled this situation. The student was changing clothes when the teacher took the flag from him. The teacher claimed he put it in the garbage because he had nowhere else to store it. How utterly ridiculous. The student was in a locker room -- almost without doubt. It's not like they were out on a playing field. Even in that scenario there were better options.

Regarding hateful posts: look at the ID#s on the posts remaining. Many have been deleted -- the ones to which I referred in my earlier post.

I did not advocate any flag waving just as I will not advocate any flag desecration. I do not advocate dropping the flag of a sovereign nation in a garbage can. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, but that doesn't mean that I or anyone else should show disrespect to the flag of another nation.

FYI, there are citizens of this great nation who do, indeed, display the Confederate flag. I don't understand their need to cling to the past, but I also am not offended by it and would not desecrate that flag, either.

It's not about issues, it's about the story.
And the story is, the audacity of a 16 year old foreign born student waving a foreign flag in a US taxpayer supported school.
Rather than show gratitude to the Country which is providing him with a free education, he'd rather try to exert mexican dominion over our Land.
Re the minutiae, you assume the incident took place in the locker room, however the text reveals the otherwise.

You assume there were more appropriate places to secure the flag in a gymnasium.

The teacher had a class to teach. I doubt he had time to call for the Marine Guard to tri-fold the flag.
It seems to me since the First Amendment permits the intentional desecration of our Flag, the teacher's action of placing the flag in a garbage can, from which it was retrieved unharmed, did not violate the Constitution.
