As a member of a conservative synagogue for over 40 years, I have seen many changes which have leaned towards the practices of the reform movement while under the giuse of conservative temples. From the wearing of talit and tiffilin to the reading of the Torah and many other traditionally male roles in services. It's no wonder that the division is growing. It is up to all involved to decide traditions as opposed to transitions. This is not a judgement statement...just an observation.
If we as Jews wish for transition then the conservative movement will end. |

Hi from the NE side of town,Brad.
Also not intending to sound judgmental, but look at what they are doing.Never mind a blind eye to inter-marriage, driving on the Sabbath, and other assorted transgressions of Torah, but now you have Conservative Rabbis performing same sex unions to boot.http://www.washingtonpost .com/wp-dyn/content/article/20 06/12/06/AR2006120601247.html There is also an article in The Forward on it; http://www.forward.com/articles/11094/ # Is this what it's coming to?Trading in Torah laws to get more people and money into synagogues? |
