I don't know, why do people change their name in 4 minutes from now to Sue....hiding behind the keyboard no one can tell who you are....lol

Are you mad at your pastor?? Ever thought , of all they go thru? They are teacher, psychologist, marriage counselor, friend, advisor, they wear many hats, they do funerals, weddings, visit the sick. I personally think they should earn a good salary. They wear many hats.

I'm curious.

What do you forum folk feel is an appropriate salary for a full-time, senior minister of a good-sized church?

This includes salary, insurance, car allowance, continuing education funds, and housing (if provided).

My guess is that major local churches are somewhere around $60,000 -$80,000.

I can only think of one church around here that tat comment would fall possibly true....

Pastors that do great jobs with so much on their shoulders and so much responsibility that how do you put a dollar value on their duties. I love my pastor and know his salary maybe 10% of what you stated. He pays his own mortgage, drives his own car, pays for his own gas, holds a full time job elsewhere but is always there if I need him. He has a heart of gold and loves God. He also has a family that I'm sure wish he was around more...I look at him and I am amazed. Pastors are human and we need to remember that. My church has about 160 members and I cannot imagine what a pastor does with hundreds having so many needs

I think the matter of the Pastor's pay is between him and his "followers." it appears that you are comparing his salary to your's. He probably puts in more hours per day then you do in a week so it might be best for you to get yourself a real job, work at it as hard as this Pastor does and who knows? You might even make as much as he does. I must warn you though; you probably won't have the time to spend on the Internet minding everyone else's business as you have now. Be thankful that this Pastor doesn't have the time to mind your's. If he did, he could probably pull a few skeletons out of your smelly closet. Get a life. Better still, get a job.

More time in one day than we work in a week?!? Well, last time I checked... there are 24 hours in a day. That falls a little short of my 40 hour work week.

Sounds like Jim here is a pastor. He should be ashamed of himself! While I hate established religion, I can respect the type of man that "Amazing" spoke about. At least he has a REAL job!

There is no way in hell that I would pay some figurehead to give me messages from some invisible being. Let's be honest, the only reason there are so many churches in the area is because so many people have realized that they are missing out on this cash cow. Put a man on a stage and let him beg for money and it's okay because it goes to fund what he thinks the church should do (aka... looks like the preacher needs a new car). In reality, he's no different than the homeless person begging for money on the street corner... oh wait, the homeless man actually needs it!

I think a paster should make an income that allows him to enjoy a standard of living that is comparable to the majority of his followers.

I also think a church should be required to spend the majority of money beyond expenses to take care of the needy.(Homeless, hungry, destitute, et.)

Churches that become big businesses should not be tolerated as it is an indication that the money is not going back into the community as it should.

Just my opinion.

Sue: I am a member of Abingdon Baptist Church. What is the beef you have with my pastor? My family loves him. No, he doesn't make alot of money for the job that he does. Do me a favor and don't down my pastor or the place I choose to worship. If you want.... meet me there this Sunday. We can pray together.:)

Amazing, you have a pastor like we had before we moved here. I will always think he is the best pastor. There were no $ signs in his eyes, he donated his pay from the church back to the church. He is and has been a blessing to all who knew him and his family. He had a full time job, but was always there when there was a need.

I am told that Sinking Springs Presbyterian has called a new pastor and they're paying him $90,000.

Members were told that this is in line with what other senior ministers are paid at similar sized churches.

Stop worrying about other peoples lives and start worrying about yours. The pastors who use their position to rip people off will be punished by God and my guess is that there are more who are corrupt than not.

Plus, if we don't agree with how a specific church runs, we can always go somewhere else. We have no right to start arguments on-line, bash people (whether you say a name or not, it is gossip), and then call ourselves Christians on Sundays (you can't justify it). The bottom line is, after this fight is over, the preachers still get paid the same.

Too many opinions, the fact is this gets us nowhere and changes nothing.

The flock of Highlands Fellowship has no clue what their shepherd gets.
It was leaked 8 years ago that was $120,00.

He does very little for his salary, Volunteers do the visiting of sick and shut-ins, ETC.
He doesn't even write his sermons, he gets them from Rick Warren, who gets them from a staff of writers.

Highlands is a satellite of Saddleback hurch in California.

The only Pastor's pay anyone needs to be concerned with is the one tht is pastoring the church you currently belong to. If you are not a TITHE PAYING MEMBER, then what a paostor is paid IS NONO OF YOUR CONCERN. If you feel the church for which you are atithe paying memeber is paying too much, then bring it up to the Board. If the Board does not see it your way, and you still disagree, then that is a message to you that it is time you move on to another church. Simple as that.
