With the recent lay-offs at Bristol Compressors and several other locations, I hope that these Kmart stores remain open as our local economy is already suffering.

It is also my hope that these retailers realize just how unstable their existence is, and will work towards improving their customer relations and the appearance of their stores.

I have stopped shopping at Kmart because of several reasons, but mostly because if you need something from a specific department (Jewelry, Electronics or Sporting Goods), you must push a button and wait for several minutes before an "associate" arrives. And often they give the impression that they were "bothered" by having to come to the department to tend to a customer.

I have also noticed that when they quit selling firearms, the store quickly loses favor within the community. It happened to Roses and soon after Kmart ceased its sales. Pretty much it turns from being a store for the whole family into nothing more than a large clothing store, which most men just simply has no interest in patronizing.

Good observation. Bring back the guns and ammo already.

...because the only thing men are interested in are guns?

Forgive me if I am skeptical, but it seems that what you said presupposes that there is a large population of nudist hunters (or gun enthusiasts) who have no need for things like electronics, bath towels, cleaning supplies or shampoo.

I dislike Kmart immensely, but I can't imagine that their firearm sales had much, if any impact on their overall profits.

Very few men (and women) I know actually purchased the fire arms there. But it was the simple fact that they were there made us more comfortable shopping there.

Men like me have little need for shampoo.(The locks of hair on our head seems to prefer to grow on our face instead after a while)

As far as electronics, we rarely buy new. We just wait until our buddies grow tired of trying to make it work, then they pass it on to us.(I think I owned the same stereo 3 times already) It's a man thing you just wouldn't understand.

Hand towels? That's what our shirt tails are for. We're going to have to wash our shirt at the end of the day anyway, so ain't no use of getting two things dirty.

Clothing? Unless it's camouflage, part of our work uniform or boots, what we do wear was probably bought for us by our spouses.

Baby items? Until they start making diaper bags in camo or dark solid colors, we're going to keep on using our hunting/fishing packs to hold these items instead. And what's with those little nail clippers and hair brushes they have for babies anyways? Them things are small enough to fit in their little hands, but surely they don't expect the young'uns to do it themselves. Way too small for ours, so we must resort to trimming their nails with our pocket knife and throw a cap on their head instead. And that gets our better half upset at us for some reason.

I don't like KMart in Abingdon because more than half the time, you can't find the prices of items. I only shop there if absolutely necessary.

With the prolific nature of Virginia Patriot's posting history, I feel compelled to comment on what a conundrum he appears to be. As someone regularly seen to uphold any and all KKK related propaganda (see "the KKK is alive and well" followed by a link in another forum), it is interesting to me to read such a post. One would think that someone who supports such interests must understand the historic connection to Southern gentlemen. While I abhor everything that the KKK represents, I am a student of history. And as such I have learned a thing or two. It is hard for me to imagine any Southern gentleman would have ever wiped his hands on his shirttail or cared so little for personal hygiene as to not use shampoo. I use this merely for illustrative purposes. It is indicative of a complete lack of knowledge of the historical context from which this individual's supposed beliefs are born and why the continued existence of groups such as the KKK is ridiculous. I am not saying it was ever right, but if you are going to attempt to propagate this cause you should at least understand the historical context from which it was born. An apparently unwashed, unkempt KKK "redneck" does not a Southern gentleman make, whether they hail from Va or not. And on a more current note, they do make solid color and camo diaper bags. Use the internet for something besides Topix and you might learn a little, hopefully about more than just the selection of diaper bags.

As far as I know camouflage has nothing to do with the kkk. However the poster virginia patriot has a lot to do with the kkk. Check out some of his other posts. My whole point was to illustrate how ridiculous and ignorant these people are. Perpetuating hate in the name of a "cause" they obviously don't even understand. It was wrong then and is still wrong today. You, ricky bobby, are only perpetuating your own ignorance or distracting from the real issue. Either way your comments are pointless.
