Last night I drove by Arby's and noticed they had a dollar menu. I needed some supper, so I turned in. The poster on the window showed several tasty looking items. When I got to the menu board, there was a lit sign with "Dollar Menu" at the top and a picture of the same items that was on the poster. I chose two and pulled up to pay. The cashier said $2.46, and I inquired how two dollar items could be almost $2.50. I was told it was the tax, and I said I didn't think the tax should be that much. After some clarification, I was informed the dollar items were $1.10 before tax. Another cashier brought over a place mat that had different prices for the items, with most being $1.10 and only 3 actually being $1.00. I ask the cashier "If I drive back to the board, will I see these prices on the sign?", and he said yes. I drove back around the building and looked at the sign and did notice it had "prices starting at" but no prices, just "Dollar Menu". I went in and ask the manager how a person was supposed to know how much the items were if it was not on the sign and why she would expect someone to think it was not a dollar if it did not have another price on it. She sent someone back and they came back and said the price sign was in the wrong place. She just looked at me and said "Thank You", no apology for overcharging or offer to give me back the 20 cents, just a smart-a**ed thank you.

If you think that's bad, have you checked out the "value" menu from Wendy's lately? When there was commercials advertising their $.99 cheeseburgers, I stopped by for a quick cheap lunch to find the burger was over $1.50. The cashier said that commercial only included "participating" stores, and they were not one of them. The chicken nuggets that use to be $.99 is now over $1.50 too. Sometimes kids and adults just need something quick and light for lunch, but even a kids meal is over $4 now. It's no wonder the economy is so bad. No one can afford to even eat fast food anymore.

This is ridiculous that you would even post this. You've completely overlooked the fact that Arby's has always been a pricey alternative to traditional fast food and FINALLY they've gotten with the times and added a value menu.$1.10 is a heck of a lot better than any offer Arby's has ever had aside from their 5 for 5.50 which was a rip off if you didn't want 5 items. Let's thank Arby's for adding this value menu instead of fighting over a dime!

Thank Arby's for deceptive advertising? I don't think so. If someone sees a menu board that shows seven items and $1.00 and no other prices what would an average person think? I really don't care what they charge for their food, I just wish they would make it clear what it cost before I drive in and order! http://i787.photobucket.com/albums/yy160/Mead...

Abingdon is known for Tax and Spend, they will find the need after they get the tax dollars in the kitty, i live in town and my personal tax is more than the countys(double tax), they tried last year to tax the farmers market produce, you cant get away from the fast food tax its any where you go, then they tax us to haul the garbage off they create.I shop very little in town, dont like spending money in town, rather give my tax dollars to the county not to this Tax and Spend bunch.

Food tax is very high and I could understand if it was a least a few dollars that the amount was different than you thought. To question a charge is fine but to go the extremes you did over 20 some odd cents is a little ridiculous. You spend more than 20 cents in gas driving around the building to read the sign again. I am surprised they even apologized to you after causing such a big commotion, it seems, over something so small.

All taxes are high and no one wants to pay them but it is a choice we don't have. At least you have the extra 20 cents to eat on, some people don't. What would you do with 20 cents anyways?

meadowview resident,
if a dime or 20 cents is that big of a deal to you sounds like you can't afford to be eating out at all.

Deception is wrong. If the cost is "approximately" a dollar, i wonder if the food is "approximate" also. I commend you on standing up for your right to know the truth.

Actually, tax on $1.00 is .05.
That would make each $1 item $1.05 so what is the problem? 5% tax is on all food and things you buy in all stores...and naturally you pay more than an asking price in stores.

Actually, I love the Jamoca shakes and the Market-Fresh sandwiches. Yum-yum

Meadowview, I'm with you. I don't think that the extra 20 cents was the issue. You probably would have ordered the same food had it been properly advertised as $1.10 each. BUT it wasn't and that is what you have issue with. Most folks probably don't even realize it when they are paying and go on their merry way having just been bamboozled. It's only right that you realized the mistake and stood up for what you believed was right. Perhaps if more of us did the same, we wouldn't have so many people trying to lie, cheat, and scam an extra buck (or MANY) off good people. And don't worry about folks on here venting (ahem...Peggy)...apparently they've got issues with numerous posters...sounds to me like this person wants to feel better about herself by putting others down...classic self esteem problem.

honestly i could dig 20 dollars out of my couch cushions. 20 cents is nothing. So just be happy you got food:) there are people starving. Its a whole 10 or 20 cents if it seems like its that much then you shouldn't eat out.. .

Went out to eat at a inside town limits resturant. We ended up paying almost 5.00 in extra taxes due to the extra town taxes. We decided we will eat at exit 7 or at home from now on. I hadn't been paying attention to our ticket till about a month ago and it really adds up if you eat out much. Abingdon has to get money somewhere since they keep losing good jobs to other areas due to their greed.

Screw all that deceptive advertising...all you ignorant morons out there are missing the point, it's not about a 20 cents or eating at fast food it's about taking a stand for your principles.
If it wasn't for people like Meadowview Resident, all of you other "sheeple" out there will just continue to stand by and do nothing, until a Value Menu item is 5 dollars, and they charge whatever price they want!
The Arby sign clearly states, albeit in small print that prices are "starting at" $1.
But to not put the prices on the menu, well how much exactly does it cost? Then to waste time asking the clueless fast food workers how much a sandwich on the value menu costs, they will probably not even know, plus half the time they always screw up your order.
Kill 'em all I say!
