It was Dennis Edmondson who was chrating on a test. I don't know if he is still with the department now, but I do know that he was not fired at the time he was caught cheating. So, there is at least two incidents 1) Dennis Edmondson cheating and 2) Blaine Tate shoplifting, where both officers kept their job. However, Charlie Proffitt was fired because he was dispatched to a "gas-drive-off" call and he gave the cashier $5.00 to pay for the gas because she was crying that she didn't have the money to pay for it and would be fired if she didn't. Someone explain to me what wrong was done there. I don't see any wrong.
I don't know any of these people personally but life is hard enough without worring about your job. Is Mr. Proffitt still with the dept. or is he one of the many that Mr. Newman let go.

Lying, Cheating, stealing... crimes of moral terpitude, in laymans terms, it means that you lie, steal or cheat. I realize that the things you mention really did happen, and for the public to have knowledge of that is embarassing for that department. Alot of really good cops have been let go up there, but there have been some turds as well, so I'm not gonna defend them all. Honestly, overall I think the low end employees up there are pretty good guys right now, so lets not hate them for having jobs!!! As for the officer that paid the cashier so she wouldn;t get in trouble, I'd never heard that, but i think a reasonable person would do the same.

It was actually under the Hayter administration when this happened, but we all know that Hayter was basically incompetant to truly run the office so what ever Newman (who served as Hayter's Captain) said, went. Proffitt was a very good officer. He stayed in his assigned area, he wrote many, many tickets in the problem areas, made many DUI arrests and also made drug arrests. I'm not just taking up for him, but just using him as an example against those like Marlin Goff who never made it more than a mile away from his home, Kitty Rosenbaum who conveniently, can never make it to a call until the same moment that her back-up unit is arriving, Scott Clear who wrecked his cruiser while "loafing" out of his assigned area, in Saltville, that's outside of the county even, Ottie Thomas let the prisoner being transported take his gun and then steal his car (yeah! have ya'll forgotten that one) and yet none of these officer were terminated.

Don't take me wrong, I don't hate any of them for having a job. I'm simply pointing out problems within the administration. For the latter part of your comment, yes, any reasonable person would help out. Proffit was a very good person and would give you the shirt off his back, however he was unliked by several in the department because he wasn't a "good ol' boy". I have nothing against the typical good ol' boy, but Proffitt was from the city, spoke proper English, and he told it like it was. He helped a citizen out and was fired for it. They pulled the badge off of his chest, took his gun belt, parked his cruiser and had another officer drive him home. In my opinion, that was DIRTY!

As we go door to door through the county the same phrase is being said by everyone we meet "change is good" we have heard that alot and from what I hear in the public the admin. could use a good administrator. In order to be a good manager you need to know how to inspire and empower your employees to put forth there best efforts. When Mike becomes Sheriff of WC (and he will) I have confidence in his abilities to run a fair and honest dept. He can bring back integrity to the dept. The general concensus in the public is that eight years of this admin is enough. I bet even the current employees would like to see a change for the better. We need a dept that is about serving the public. Wasn't the slogan for police to "protect and serve?"

I think it would be embarassing for the dept. It says one of two things about the admin. and that is either you are hiring the wrong employees to start with or you are hiring good people and they can not stay due to a poor work environment and therefore seek work elsewhere. With the highest turnover rate in the area (we checked with surrounding sheriffs) what do you think the turnover rate is attributed to?

Well, rumour certainly has it that the work environment there really is horrible. I hear the phrase "job scared" far too often. I bet that really takes away from those guys' ability to concentrate on doing their jobs.

SERIOUSLY!! The least talked about election is now getting talked about, but we still have to address the others. I don't wanna hear about voting along party lines either, cause that's just foolish. Lets hear about Commissar of the revenue next!!!

This is a lie! My parents attend the church where he pastored at. He definately did not do those things which you have wrongfully accused him of. Oh yeah the Bible is pretty plain about baring a false witness. Just thought you would want to know.

Just because Lisa Andis' nephew is in law enforcement doesn't mean she knows anything about the law! Blake Andis is supporting Mark Graham by the way. If you don't believe it, ask him. Teaching biology for 25 years hasn't really qualified her for handling legal issues and understanding what the Clerk even does. The only experience Lisa had with the law was getting divorced.
Paul Price is the worst supervisor we have ever had. Name one thing he has done. As an Independent, he doesn't have anyone to even second his motions. So it doesn't impress anyone that Lisa Andis supported Paul Price. He lost his job as a preacher for running around on his wife. Ask him about his fight with his girlfriend's husband over the weekend in Gatlinburg! Hypocrit.
I've known Mark Graham for years. He is a good lawyer and knows how the legal system SHOULD work. He has been heavily involved in our community through Rotary and the community college. He and his wife have the cutest kid. He is very accessible.
If the election is between a biology teacher with no record and someone who has practiced law in an established firm, run a law office, taught legal assistants at the community college and even chairs the state community college board, it isn't even close who should be elected. We are lucky Mark is running.

Didn't he actually stand in front of the members of "his" church and admit it before stepping down?? Yeah.. that's what i hear. not knocking old perverted hypocrites, I like cooter too. But just as we hold our local cops to the flame when they embarass themselves, we should also do with preachers, ooh! and members of our county board of supervisors.. wow! what an example we could make!!! talking out of one side of his face while kissing some strange woman with the other..!! Now why didn't we hear about this on the news or in the newspaper?? That is ONE JUICY STORY!!!

Okay, back on topic, from what i can figure, we need someone in the position of Circuit court clerk who knows how to do the job. Phipps already works there, has a good reputation. Though mark Graham is a nice guy with a sterling reputation, I prefer experience.

I personally don't see the big deal with the other three constittional offices. I mean, once a year, you file your taxes with the commissioner, once a year you pay your taxes to the treasurer and only if you get married, deed a house, or commit a heinous crime will you ever have to deal with the circuit court clerk, and even then you will probably be dealing with deputy clerks. But, ya'll can discuss them anways. I'll sit quietly and be amused nonetheless.

I am not sure what the opponents website address are but here are the canididates web address that I support. Also, since I have posted Mike's web address on the topix page we have rec. several questions via email and have answered them all and I would like to thank everyone for their support and questions. Websites: Michael F. Hall www.michaelhallforsheriff.com Trish Phipps www.phipps4clerk.com and Patty Denton has an email address, no website yet- but email is [email protected] No one is running against Fred Parker. I think Fred Newman's website address is Michael Hall is the "New Man" for the job.com HAHAHAHAH!!! Just kidding I don't really know what it is. Vote for Hall in the Fall!!!

NO he did not! If you go by what you "hear" you can get a lot of juicy gossip. But I want no part of gossip. I want the TRUTH. Some people could care less about the truth they just want to make someone else look bad to improve their own image. People don't like Mr. Price becasue he won't bow down to their money and treats everyone fairly. Next time know your facts before slandering someone's good name. You and whoever else that is spreading these lies ought to be ashamed!!! The only "juicy" thing about it is the lies you people are spreading.

Again, this is the second forum where we ended up talking about someone who is not related to the topic. Some may feel that the office of Circuit court clerk is not that important, but alot of folks will be in misery if we elect the wrong person. That is a VERY important position. No matter WHO you vote for, you absolutely need to vote.
