Is this the place on White St.? I'm ashamed to admit it, but I have them on speed dial so I'm not even sure this is my OB. IF it is, then they are great. They stay phenominally busy, but if you're trying to schedule an appointment for something urgent (something other than your annual appt) they usually try their best to fit you in pretty quickly. I have been happy with all of my visits.

I had my baby boy in july ( my first one too), and Dr. Manthey delivered my little guy. I absolutely loved him and the other doctors at the office. My only problems was with JMH when I delivered. They were very rude to my family and visitors. I wanted to Breast feed, but when I tried to nurse all i could produce was approx. half a tsp. from both breasts so i asked the nurses if I could suppliment him formula until my milk came in and they said no. My poor baby cried the whole time because he was so hungry, and my breast milk never did come in.
I'm sure many others have had good experiences with JMH, and before I delivered there I nothing but good to say about them too. My advice is to be stern with the staff and nurses and let them know exactly how you want things to be with your baby.
Best of luck! And congrats!:)

The Bristol board is so boring compared to other towns in the area! What happened to the daily Mannix bashing and so forth?

I used to go there, but changed drs when i was expecting my first child. Not so much because of the drs, but I wouldn't dare have a baby at JMH. I don't know about the new hosp., or if it will be open before you deliver, but I would recommend Bristol's birthing center. They are wonderful there and I had both my babies there. If you are worried about the distance (I assume you live in Abingdon) then let me say that I live in Marion and had no issues either time. Best wishes with your pregnancy!

I will def. be going to Bristol if I have another baby. They were terrible, and not to mention I was there for 3 days and they only came to clean my room once! I was afraid to even take a shower, It looked like the shower hadn't been cleaned in weeks. I was very disapointed in how much they had gone down over the years.

Abingdon OB is wonderful, I had my son at JMH - delivered by Dr. Leight (who is AWESOME) and I HIGHLY recommend this office and the OB nurses at JMH. I was in the hospital for a total of 2 weeks and they were all (Dr. leight included) wonderful and went above and beyond for me and my baby. The nursery staff was also very welcoming and helpful as was the lactation consultant! I Have NOTHING negative to say about them. Abingdon OB's nurses even called Johnson City Medical center when they found out my son had to be admitted there 3 months after his birth --- they called and was transferred to his room and asked me how he was and if there was anything they could do. Wonderful bunch of people - HIGHLY recommended!

I went to them when I was pregnant with my first child and loved them. They always took their time when they were in a visit with me. I had to see all of them at one point or another. I really didn't like Johnston memorial though. Some of the nurses were nice and others were very rude. I haven't been to any other hospital. I am pregnant now with my second child which is eleven years later lol but I live in Tennessee so I won't be going there. I am hoping that the new hospital will be much better but I do recommend abingdon obgyn.

The best way to not breast feed is to supplement in the hospital. Don't have company and feed that baby day and night and you will have plenty of milk. It is all about supply and demand. So if you supplement then plan on not breastfeeding. It is best to to give a bottle for 3 at least 3 weeks and at that pump and give baby breast milk. I am so tired of hearing that women did not have enough milk. The human body will make all the milk your baby demands and it takes a few days for your milk to really come in until then your baby is getting much needed colostrum. I don't blame the nurses they were trying to help you. I have breast fed four kids and never had to give any supplements till they were 9 months old. So you have to nurse round the clock pretty much those first weeks. It is not for the weak or faint at heart that is for sure.

well i went to a specialist for that very reason. I felt awful that i couldnt nurse. And when I got home i used the very high powered breast pump that WIC supplied me with for over a month religously and all I would pump out evey time was an ounce with combined breasts. I really did try, I would give my baby the breast milk, then give him formula. Not all women can produce breast milk like others. Like I said earlier i went to a lactation specialsit and she informed me that it's very common for a lot of women not to produce enough milk. I really hate when people put the women like me down. I know some women are lazy, and use that as their excuse to not breastfeed..but I really did try. I did everything I could to produce more milk, i changed my diet and everything.
nice
