Actually, I don't think Big John's is 100% anymore since they put in the new pumps...could be wrong, but they have the "this product contains up to 10% ethanol" stickers on their pumps. The gas station just a half a mile or so south of Big John's has 100% though (toward Abingdon). They've been advertising it on their signs.

Oh I didn't know that about Big John's. I haven't been there since they put the new pumps in. That sucks though!!

My Prius gets 47 MPG with E-10 and 53 with pure gas. That means on 10 gallons of gas I can go 470 miles with E-10 and 530 on pure gas, a difference of 60 miles. It takes 1.27 extra gallons of E-10 to go the extra 60 miles (60/47). This means the E-10 saved 1 gallon of pure gas (10% of 10 gallons), but then used an extra 1.14 (1.27*.9) gallons of pure gas to go the same distance. That's .14 gallons of pure gas wasted just to make some corn farmers happy.

I'm gonna have to study on that math and numbers some more, it doesn't quite add up to me. I know my flex fuel pickup would get around 11mpg on E85 and 16mpg on E10, so I am not sure why E10 vs. E0 would make your car lose 10% of it's mileage, supposedly you need a third more ethanol to have the same amount of energy as an equivalent amount of gasoline, which is about what I saw, so I'd expect your Prius to have only seen a 3 or 4 percent difference between E10 and E0 (pure gasoline). Maybe you were driving it harder, or there were other variables such as time of year making the mileage vary?

Don't be knocking ethanol and happy corn farmers too much, as petroleum production continues to decline, we will have less options, and the hope is that ethanol production will become more efficient.

try Food City, their pumps in Bluefield Va are 100% so I would
assume their pumps at their stores in your area would also be
ethanol free.

I know of two "100% gas" stations in VA, so they must still be able to sell it. They're very publicly displaying the fact on their overhead signs. I can't imagine they'd be displaying it if it's illegal.

Dee Dee's still has their "100% Gas" sign up too. I don't like ethanol mixes in the 2-stroke engines, I heard it can cause problems, but I can't really tell much difference in my truck or car with 100% gas vs. 10% ethanol.
