How many senseless deaths and attacks have to happen before laws are enacted to prevent ownership of this breed? I'm tired of owners claiming that their pit bulls are not agressive. Clearly they are and certainly they are unpredictible.

I'll post this again...it isn't the owners of these dogs that are the problem...it's the dogs. They are killers and don't need to be around people. To all of you pit owners who say their dogs are loveable family pets...beware or the next story will be about your child!

How many children have to be seriously injured or killed before people realize that Pit Bulls were bred to fight? The breed is a FIGHTING breed. Regardless of if you have the sweetest Pit Bull in the world, the fact is that it is a fighting breed. It is in their DNA to fight and no one should EVER trust a Pit Bull around a child. The owners of these dogs should be charged with murder. Nothing less. This is just heartbreaking.

I think there should be a breeding ban on these animals.

Well here we go again.
All the Pitt Bull owners come on out and tell everybody that we can't blame the breed we have to blame the owners and irresponsible parents.
There needs to be some strict regulations for people who want to own these dogs. There also needs to be some lengthy jail time for owners who's dogs kill or maim somebody.
I am close to being on board the ban train. It is just not worth it. The "responsible owners" have to realize that this is a disturbing trend and that there may be no answer but to ban these dogs.
You can tell me all you want that your Pit is the sweetest dog in the world and that other breeds also attack.
Well I have owned dogs my whole life and have yet had to defend any breed I have had. Y'all are going to have to do it twice in one week.
Good luck.

No matter how well the owners of these dogs think they may have "trained" their dogs to be docile around their family, they're still animals and will act accordingly as such. No one can predict how a pit bull will act in certain situations. Owners of pit bulls know they have the propensity to be very violent and should be held accountable for their dogs.

I don't know if I want to cry or vomit. A little 7 year old boy has died because some dimwits insist on having violent animals as pets....tragic!!! And think of the pain he endured! I am SCREAMING MAD!! The breed should be outlawed in the US, and owners should be held accountable for the dogs' actions. My brother was attacked by a pitbull in Iowa. He is a grown man, 6' 1", over 200 lbs. He's recovered from his injuries, but the authorities did nothing about the animal or the owner...The next victim of that dog could be a little 7 year old boy.:(

Oh but ya'll, it's not the poor Pit Bull's fault, it's the owner (note the sarcasm). Here comes Sam to tell us all about how sweet and loving his murderous dog is. I think they all should be shot. Those of you defending this breed need some serious psychiatric help. But they are going to try and bring their "facts" about how labs are the #1 biting dog, and that chihuahuas can be vicious too. BLAH BLAH BLAH.

To all you people that want or own a Pit bull you should have them in a 8ft tall cyclone pen with a cyclone cover and a license for that pet. I think that someone should come from animal control in your city or county to inspect these pens/kennel routinely. If you want to play with your good natured pit - you go inside the pen. And for crying out loud, cover them by insuring them if you can find an agent that would do that sort of thing. But even when that dog digs out (and they all do) is your insurance enough to "compensate" the parents of the victims. Is it really worth having a dog with the DNA to fight to back it up? Isn't just one childs life worth it to pick out another dog? They may be sweet to your child. But that one question will always remain. "What if?"

GOOD RIDDANCE! Let's get rid of all the Pit Bulls. One of my good friends has 2 pitts (got both of them since Christmas). I havent been to her house since. She said they are sweet hearts and it's all in the way you raise them and I tell her that is certainly isn't. I guess she will see one day when one of her beasts turn on her or her daughter.

Unfortunately its just the luck of the draw with this breed. You are going to have some that are very timid and some that are very aggressive and unpredictable. I don’t think its a quality limited to these dog I think there are many breeds that share the same quality. The difference being that the media has narrowed in on these animals and singled them out as the only aggressive “killer” dogs. There are plenty of people attached by dog everyday but they do not carry the same stigma as this breed therefore its not really news worthy. I have a family member that has 5 of these dogs. Some are aggressive and unpredictable and some are not. There is one in particular that is timid and docile despite being 80lbs and having a head like a alligator.. My 6 year old daughter plays with this dog and he has never been aggressive to her or anyone else. In fact the only annoying thing he does is sit under the dining room table and whine like a baby because you are not petting him.

Basically all I am saying is that this is a common trait in dogs to be unpredictable and to even attack people... Sometimes killing them.. But to say this is behavior that it is specifically confined to this single breed is naive to say the least... Its a stereotype perpetuated by popular culture and media.

Right... I agree.. The main part of this story is that the owners I assume had to know that these animals where aggressive and did not take the proper precautions in order to prevent them from getting out. These dogs could have been trained to be aggressive because they where guard animals at a business or something.. The owners should be people should be thrown in jail..

sad but true...
Very good post.
My best friends wife was attacked by one of their rotwiellers a couple of years ago. Lost the use of one of her arms because of it. No one understands why. Never saw either of them show any agressiveness. They were like big teddy bears. Really weird how it just turned like that. The dog was euthannized, as should be any dog that attacks a innocent person.
Your right, it's just the nature of some breeds to be like that, not just pit bulls.
But at the same time, something needs to be done to prevent these types of attacks. And right now, because of the number of pit bull attacks that are occuring, they are in the spotlight.

And I agree also, the owners should be held responsible for the actions of their pets. Regardless of the breed. It was irresponsibility by the owners not to have these dogs penned up. No amount of fines or jail time will give back to these parents, what they lost. All because somebody couldn't pen their dog up. That's the sad part.

Will people never learn? These dogs are not to be trusted. Such a senseless tragedy. I blame the owners and the dogs. So sad.

What a tragedy. I am glad I have a chihuahua. My brother has a pit, but my kids are never allowed near him. He has had the dog for many years, but you just cant trust them. I personally do not trust any large dog, chihuahuas are as big as it gets around as far as a dog goes. Glad my neighbors moved, they had huge mixed breed muts that barked and chased everyone down the road.
