Morck developer tries to reassure Aberdeen Council

“The nice thing is someone's going to do it. The downside is it's going to take a lot longer than we thought”

The Oregon developer who wants to turn the former Morck Hotel building from a downtown Aberdeen eyesore into a luxury boutique hotel has assured the City Council that the project will get completed. via Daily World

We've heard enough from this developer. A "boutique" hotel in downtown Aberdeen? Let Yonich do the hotel and Mr T can do the other areas around the block that he has promissed but still not delivered.

I listened to the radio show Monday as well and I think John Y. can get it done if given a chance. Why would Chester not develop around the block and let John restore the Morck? Aberdeen needs this, and EVERYONE should take an interest in making some noise to push these two to settle their differences....

John Yonich is the real deal. First of all and most importantly he is from Aberdeen amd truely the real deal. he doesn't need Aberdeen or Grays Harbor, we need him.

I've been watching this form the outside the past two years. I think we all have had enough of " Chester the Great". I've known of John and his family for years. In reading both sides of the articles in the paper,I think Yonich probably makes sense of the matter. If he truely offered Trabuco development around the Morck, if seriuos, why wouldn't Mr. T do what he said he was going to do. That is develop the other surrounding areas. Just hope that Yonich doesn't get discouraged, and keep his money in Seattle. We need THIS Bobcat back now. Local boy does good!

I just drove through Aberdeen tonight on my way to Ocean Shores. Is thst downtown sad. I've been reading about the Morck and its future. When reading through the lines, it seems that Mr T has great ideas without the funds to perform. It also appears that he has more than enough time to pull this off.He says that Yonich is his main investor, but after looking into past articles he mentions others, Quiggs, ect. Where is there money? Mr Trabucco, please step aside and let Mr Yonich move forward. All of us in this ccommunity thank you for your work to date. Take your magic back to Astoria. Welcome back John!

I've known Chester for many years -- he should not be underestimated.
Projects such as the Morck take a visionary, someone who will not take their eye off of the goal -- Chester is that guy. No one thought that his project in Astoria made any sense either -- and he fought many of the same battles that he appears to be fighting in Aberdeen. Not only has it become a showcase, but was also a catalyst for many other development projects. I suspect that developing the property around the Morck doesn't make much sense unless the Morck is transformed back into a spectacular destination hotel, which is likely why he wants to control the quality of the Morck reconstruction. If the Morck becomes anything less than a destination hotel, then the hotel will ultimately fail, along with the development that surrounds it.

This has been delayed too long, and enough time has been wasted...this isn't Portland or Seattle, Aberdeen needs this downtown investment and redevelopment TODAY...GET THIS THING RESOLVED!!!
One other rant if I MAY....Chester Trabucco the Morck should under no circumstances turn into a Holiday Inn or Best Western....that is certainly not what was represented when this project was announced? That’s a batch and switch!
Enough!

Enough - Way to go right to the point. Its coming up on 2 years from when I first read this in the paper. When I saw the Quiggs name then Yonich, I truely beleived it was for real. Wow was I wrong. Yonich now seems the only logical choice. Chester, I know your past in Astoria. It's not quite as "rosy" as you explain it. Thanks for the "kick start" in Grays Harbor" but please head home to Oregon. You need to look over your facility there. I've stayed at he Hotel. Not as great as advertised !!!!!

Projects such as this take time, and almost always longer than anticipated. With regard to Enough's comments, I don't think it has ever been Chester's plan to make the Morck a Holiday Inn or Best Western -- quite the contrary. It sounds (from what I've read) that Yonich is more inclined to downgrade the quality of the Morck finished product to a less grandiose and more common hotel. I suspect that was not the original goal of Quigg (to build a generic hotel), who originally brought the project to Chester after hearing of the Hotel Elliot in Astoria.

I lived at the Morck for 3 and 1/2 years. It was a complete nightmare I would not wish on an enemy. Bob Annis does not deserve any more money! He took that hotel from the woman who was an original owner. She made the mistake of hiring him to get rid of undesirables, and ended up being thrown out herself! Twice I heard someone kicking their heels on the wall of a room below me and after two days it stopped. The 2nd time I heard it, a mother who was having trouble keeping her man from going out to get drunk would cry and cry and beg him not to leave her and baby alone. Her crying and yelling went on for a week, then one night it stopped, but the kicking downstairs started again. There were two killings, and Annis' girlfriend would get drunk and try to rape disabled guys. A guy friend of mine (he told me) and a mentally disabled guy who lived there came up and told me she had tried to rape him! I told them both to report it to the police, but their thinking was such that I should actually have taken them by the hand. An undercover agent rented a room and began to slide on his rent to see if the rumor was correct that Annis, his son and goons were in the habit of breaking a tenent's door down (mine was down when I first moved in, they forgot). After the undercover reported his findings, Annis was sat down and it was explained to him very nicely how to go about evicting people. This guy gets all the breaks! He had a room specificly for evicted victim's belongings I happened to notice the door open and looked in. There was a pile of belongings up to the ceiling, and a lot of it was baby things. It all went downstairs to the 2nd hand store to be sold. I had to say something, because I know the true character of this guy who once bragged to me that he was the devil. I believe it. When I gave notice he became unbelievably mean. My brother was dropping me off at the building and Annis came at me with a horrible, intent look on his face until he realized my brother was standing there with me. Annis suddenly spun around on his heel and I did not have to see him again.
This guy is nuts

The MOrck has been nothing but a slum since I can remember. I am almost 40yo. I have seen crimes committed right on the sidewalk. I have never walked in front of it due to fear. My children intuitively know this place to be a bad place. It will take more than arguing, more than plans and more than stories to fix this eyesore. It is a scarred landmark. It will never be repaired in our hearts.

Please John build it. Words on the street that your sick of the mess and are going to move onto other projects. I've lived in the Harbor over 80 years. This is exactly the spark that this community needs. Its more than just a hotel. It's the center of Grays Harbor County. Some people only know of that property when it was an apartment building. Those days are gone. JOHN, PLEASE DON"T FORGET YOUR ROOTS ABD EDUCATION

As a person who is interested in becoming part of the downtown revival as a potential business owner, I have to say that I am disappointed with the lack of movement on this. I understand Yonich's position, as well as Chester's. However, as a friend pointed out to me, how can we pour everything into this making this a destination, when only a few minutes away is the ocean? I think it is important to revive this hotel and give it flair, as well as add some other elements surrounding it. But folks-those of you who say to not do this project, that's just a big mistake. To bring this big project to life is just what Aberdeen needs to transition into an artistic historical community.
