There might be increased interest in this, due to that octuplet disaster out in California.

I was in the oven when the Fischers, and the Prieto quintuplets of Venezuela who came along the following week, were born.

I am glad to hear everything turned out well for the whole family. I used to follow the stories of your family and enjoyed looking at the pictures of the whole family. I was 11 when you were born. I had recently started wondering what had become of the Fischer family so I came across this site as a result of a Google search.

I look forward to sharing our 46th bithday this Sept 14. My Grandfather always teased me that I beat the 5 of you in being born by a couple of hours. I have no idea if this is true, but it always comes to mind at birthday time and gives me a small sense of connection with the 5 of you. May your lives continue to be a blessing to you and your respective families. Don't ever let the truely nosey and rude people get to you.

All 13 members of the Fischer Family still live in the Aberdeen, SD area.
Mary Ann and her husband; Andrew, divorced in the 1980s, which also may be a reason the media has lost interest in this family. The entire family, including Andrew (age 81) still gets together at Christmas.
Despite the troubles that came with publicity in the 1960s, the family's private life was wonderful and still is.
Mary Ann has been quoted as saying, "The joy of my children was the best part," she said. "We had lots of good times. Why, we had enough family to have our own ball games out in the yard."
At this time, neither she nor any of her children are sitting on top of the world, but they are all happy. Mary Ann has also been quoted saying, "They're the most important thing to me. I love every one of them dearly and none of them turned out bad. I am not saying we were always perfect, but I think I did a pretty good job as a mother, and I am proud of every one of them."
Mary Ann has eight grandchildren ranging from grade-schoolers to college students. She also has one great-granddaughter. The family with an understandable propensity for privacy will celebrate their 4rd birthdays on Sept 14th in that manner.
not all of them live in Aberdeen Mary Cathrin fisher( now bales) lives in Redfield who is my mother

Karen,
To answer your question. A website that lists all the quintuplets in the world says that two of the girls are identical. I was surprised when I read that because the photos in the Saturday Evening Post issues, they all look so much alike, but in some photos I saw as they got a little older you can tell that only two are identical. I'm pretty sure that Cathy and Maggie are the two that are identical.
there sister Margy looks like them to

I'm glad to hear that they are alive and contented. I don't remember about their being too much hype about them as I remember that the parents did not want to be in the limelight and back then the news media respected their wishes. I remember doing a paper on multible births for a class in nursing school. I did it because I was a faternal twin. Also, my first nephew was born on Sept. 25th of 1963 and the last month of my sister's pregrency her doctor teased her that she was getting so big that perhaps she was going to have Quins. My nephew was a 10 1/2 lb. baby which I believe was pretty big. When people teased him in later years about how much he weighed, I would tell him to tell them that his uncle on his mother's side was 12 lb 9 oz.A lot of things happened that Fall far more important than the birth of the quins and who can forget Nov. 23, 1963?

Well I think you are wrong, if they were not big news then people would not be remembering them 46 years later.

Every Sept. 14th, since the quints were born, I always mentioned to someone that it was their birthday. Am so glad to hear they are all alive and well. I was turned 14 just 4 days before their birth so it was easy to remember their birthdays. Maybe Oprah can do a show with them all. She would do it decently.

Great to read of the Fischer quints! I did morning drive at KSDN radio in Aberdeen for six months in 1975. I would have enjoyed having them on the radio
as it was a big studio...instead of frying an egg on
the service road leading up to the station on a hot day. I miss Aberdeen...a great city...and I guess I missed opportunity too...all the Fischers could have been on...
