Rosebud Sioux Tribe Adresses Suicide Rate

The Rosebud Sioux Tribe will host a summit tomorrow and Wednesday in Mission to try to draw attention and resources to the high number of suicides.

You can help by getting the youth jobs or start a program such as some kind of sports that the people are into examples more tournaments in sports
you can also start trying to start a GED program so that way the teens who dont go to school can just go there (R.I.P APB)

Hi my name is Samantha and I'm 19 years old and I used to live on the rosebud reservation and now i live in Minnesota... I will be soon going back to attend college there. When i was living there and it is the way it still is now only worst because of these killings... I have some ideas that I think will help... Well first off I think all the towns on the reservation look miserable to live in. They need a self-esteem boost and so do families especially the kids. They are very good looking people and they need places to work and good money to spend. I'm proud to be half Lakota and half chicana or hispanic and I'm glad to have the heritage, customs, traditions, pride and love from my people and for my people. I KNOW they deserve the best... I have talked to people here in Minnesota about my experience on the rosebud reservation, about how they taught me how survive and how to really live. They don't deserve to be treated the way they have been. Everything has been took from them but they still go strong. It's GREAT! I want to help soo bad and it's hard to right now but I plan on one day after finishing college to go and devote my time and effort into helping. So I hope you help try to convince the rosebud sioux tribe to put their money and time into making the reservation better and build things they can use instead of putting up detention centers and detox centers. I think that just makes them feel even lower and reminds them that when they have problems thats where they'll end up. The schools and University should better than those places... theres nothing anyone can do to help all of us on the rez. What we do is up to us & whoever is feeling down. Suicide aint no joke, Nothing to be proud about so why do we do it? no one knows what other people are going thru not even if u sit down & ask, u'll never know, like how i dont know how ur feeling now. U can write a thousand words to explain how u feel but it wont add up. We have to help ourselves into makin ourselves better but the way each and every teen was raised than what it was Back Then. Its not only the teens' fault but also the parents have a big part in it, Some parents dont really care about whut their kids do no days its like they gave up on us. We need guidance & support but our parents are more caught up on going out & drinking, fighting & not paying attention to the kids. Im actually kinda worried about whuts gonna happen to our children when the Elders pass on. No one to teach our culture & its also sad to see that the White are teaching Native American History (like they really kno how) & now days (not to be racist) but our cultures gettin mixed so u see white skinned blue eyed people saying "Oh yeah im half native i come from blah blah blah" i laugh everytime i hear that because only us Full Blooded native americans know whut its like to live with a struggle. & whut ever happends happends i guess. I hope something changes on the Rez...Rosebud South Dakota is where im from & i gotta say i love it ;) with out my son i aint shit YA DiGG!!

The younger generations however tend to be killing themselves off for whatever the reason. They should just enlist in the war effort and die in combat. Atleast then they would die with honor and have left some compensation for their families on the rez.
