House completely destroyed by fire in Caledonia

isnt it required to inspect the fire hydrants frequiently during this time to avoid something such as the hydrant being frozen

They drain the hydrants after each use this time of year.They are designed not to freeze like this. But we do live in Michigan and this can and does happen one and awile. Good job to all the fire dept guys thanks for your service .

Any word on what may have caused the blaze? I also live in a very old home in Caledonia and I worry about the construction of the homes of that era such as the wood slats/plaster that can go up so easily because of dryness and age? Also, the electrical in some of these old places is very out-dated and difficult to know how safe it is. Just wondered about the potential cause...I would hate to be in the same shoes.
