The problem at the Bluefield Schools is the lazy parents that do not get involved with the school or their own children.

I agree. Quit blaming the teachers, they have a tough job and get no respect.

By the way, about 65% of the schools in the country are projected to have this school choice option....and basically all schools in the country will be labeled as a failing school soon according to the NYCB standards... They are unrealistic standards.

Or, schools should quit trying to fit square pegs in round holes.
There was a reason for segregation, and the reason is scientifically sound yet politically impolite.
Groids (a difference of 2std dev points in IQ) cannot function cognitively at the same level as other races. Stop forcing them to go to school (truancy), and wasting more tax dollars.
Every charity in the world, refer to the Wade Center, is surrounded by black faces in need. Wasteful hand outs need to stop, and the incentives for them to breed incessantly needs to be removed.
American just like Bluefield will turn third world if left uncheck.

I'm confused as to how the transfer of students would work. These would be intermediate students sent back to elementary school. Will they be doing elementary school work all over again?

This is due a lot to the no child left behind act and it is like posted above some certain students just do not have the IQ level and this (if there are enough there) brings down the -average- and results for the entire school. This is a totally unfair standard and as well the education system ( and the government programs) have to face the FACT- you can't teach intelligence and all through history there have been those that could not or did not learn well and those that excelled all in the same school.
Sometime it will come to the point of MUCH more of a problem than now-it is showing up BUT there will be a time parents may have to turn their backs on the "public" school system-and the truth is the vast majority really cannot afford this -but the children that have the IQ-that have a motivation to learn-are in a sense held back because of those that are not learning. They have tried special ed and other things that may have worked to a degree but more is needed. The wasteful handouts have to cease .

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, they don't have to go back to elementary school...good lord. They simply have the option to go to another local intermediate school, if they wish.... It's part of the NCYB garbage that Bush put out a few years ago, which will eventually label all of our schools as failing, so they can take away federal funding...

But the article says that they have the option of transferring to Bluewell or Brushfork Elementary. So are they going to teach them intermediate classes at the elementary schools?

Bluewell and Brushfork are Kindergarten through Grade 5. Most elementary schools in the county are K-5. The intermediate schools are 3-5 and the primary schools are K-2.

Don't feel bad... Most people don't know what it's all about.

It's really a big crock of crap, if you ask me... No Child Left Behind was created by the Bush administration as a way to keep public schools from receiving federal funds by setting unattainable goals for them to meet. It has nothing to do with leaving children behind... Just another one of his famous programs that sounds nice and rosy, when in reality it's quite the opposite.

You wouldn't have to move your child at all...they can still go to Bluefield intermediate...and I wouldn't consider them to be a failing school at all....There are 27 criteria for schools to make "progress" in each year... if they only make progress in 26 of the 27 for 2 years in a row....they are a failing school.... bunch of bull....you can't continue to improve every single year....it's a catch 22...all schools will eventually fail.

Wouldn't you just know it, a school is rated as failing and some dummies still say their kids are doing just fine in said school. valuable info, it was Ted Kennedy who wrote the no kid left behind law. Two years in a row they fall behind and it's a bunch of crap? No, your comment is the bunch of crap.

The issue is that the Bluefield and Princeton schools fail these standards because the parents of those children are failing. How come Montcalm meets these standards when Montcalm gets hardly any money from the county? The parents in Montcalm make their children do the work, Bluefield and Princeton parents do not.

What do you expect when you have fifth generation welfare parents who only have kids to get more government money. Thanks LBJ what a "Great Society" we have now.

Montcalm has less blacks and it is sad to say But any school or district where because of the great consolidation of schools-that has taken place in Mercer county as well as much of the nation-some schools have a larger portion of them . This is not just blacks however-some blacks have excelled and gone on to do great things...but anytime you get a "concentration of the "give me or the welfare class" in a school they will lower the averages of the scores. In many cases the parents do not care all they have children for is the careless breeding in order to get an extra check and more "freerider" benefits. These take NO INTEREST in the children or trying to help them learn-their main at home teaching is showing the kids how to use and work the "system" as their goal never sees past a freeloader-freeriding style of life.

I'm a Bluefield parent and my child does the work and is exceptional at it. Don't throw all of the Bluefield and Princeton parents into one big pile and label us and don't label my child as something he is not based on where he goes to school!!

This is where this "standard" they are using to measure-the no child left behind is so unjust. There is NOTHING wrong with the Bluefield school OR the teachers.

Your child is doing well in that school-and as you said is exceptional-and I am sure there are others the same. This is why this is so misleading and such a shame it is there. The state I understand is trying to get some kind of waver from this program.Like many others it is a piece of useless crap.
A given school may have a good percentage of really good students-that can and do learn and do really well BUT IF that school has a "good percentage" of kids that for any reason do not grasp-try or learn well-and yes this sometimes tends to be minorities and other "groups" then in "averaging it all out" what happens is they bring the ratings of the WHOLE school down and the teachers are blamed .
This is no different than "averaging grades for a year -if a person has 3 "A"s and 2 "D"s and an "F" then the result is GOING TO BE POOR.Quite simply-those with a low IQ-those that WON'T try to learn-those with learning disabilities-those that DO NOTHING drag down an entire school in this averaging.
