What I can't figure out is why wasn't the public informed of their (SAVES) long range plans years ago. SAVES plan is to be a paid department. The reason they want the municipalities to underwrite the cost of the new building so that after a couple of years SAVES can tell them they can't hold up their end of the bargin. Then the townships will have to increase taxes to cover everything and SAVES will ask for a paid department. IT CALL GREED.

There is no plans in the very distant future of SAVE becoming a paid department. They have one of the most active member's in the county. If you are so concerned about SAVES and what there plans are, go to the meeting on the 13th and ask them what there plans are. I can guarantee you that a paid dept is not one of them.

Facts, I have talked to one of there Chief Officer's when I moved here back in 2005. He said that there plans were to have a paid department within 2 years after the new building was done. So, I guess what he told me was wrong? As a volunteer how would I trust the Chief Officer of that department.

I think it is time to disband all VFD and make them county wide paid departments (Adams and York)and disband the ones that give the VFD a black eye everytime they talk to the public (Kingsdale comes to mind. Let's bring more back to this profession and while we're at it get ride of the "fire police" also. Let them tax us some more IF IT RESULTS in better service and better people in the departments.

I can guarantee you this. There is a few departments in Adams-York Area that provide a better quality of service then a Career System. I would put them up against most career dept. and they would come out on top. Now with that said there are many sub-par departments also.

I don't get why when you even bring up the words "Fire Department" everyone begins to fight. The job we do is to help save lives, limbs, and property. We all agreed to help people when in need. I do not care if you are paid or volunteer, we all do the same job. Black eyes will heal with time. I am tired of hearing about these same complaints when the threads have nothing to do with it.

Could not have said it better. Reminds me of a brotherhood post not to long ago. We all need to get along.

my biggest concern about this situation is two fold. First is the fact that they are asking for the 4 municpalities to a)underwrite their loan of approx 5 million so that they can get a better rate/guarantee and b)the $58,000 that they are requesting from conewago township is not just a one time thing. They are requesting that this money to be guaranteed to them each year for the next 25 years in addition to their yearly contributions. That's the part that the paper leaves out each time they write a story about SAVES.
The only way the township can give that much money to them each year in addition to what they are getting now is to raise the taxes and with the prices of everything else going up are the citizens ready to have a tax increase? On the flip side of the coin if SAVES isn't able to make up their portion of the "mortgage payment" which is estimated at $200,100 per year WHO do you think is going to be responsible to pick up the entire tab?? Important information is being left out of the stories so that the taxpayers of those areas don't realize just how much is going to be expected of them over the course of the next couple of years.

If you think that the fire co. is wrong then go to the meeting and find out the truth, the news paper does put in the wrong story all the time.

Do you people who know all know how it feels to get out of bed at 2 am with only minutes to get to someone who needs help? Were you their to see someone die knowing that you can't do anything to help them? Were you ever their to know you helped save a life? I have. Do you go out and serve a banquet or give to help a fire company.Do you ever know what its like to raise money that we need to pay for our trucks ,to heat our buildings that house these trucks. If no go to your nearest fire department and help. We need everyones support. If you people would lend a little hand maybe we would not need so much help.

Yes I do as well as several other well trained and formally dedicated Firefighters. Our opinions did not match Chief Weavers nor his clique so we were driven to the point of quitting the fire service or transfering to another Company. Why would anyone perform all of the above services along with several hours of training for FREE remain at a Company where those in charge treat people with different opinions like trash. I would not keep a paying job long under those conditions let alone a volunteer job. I propose a real solution a COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT utilizing some of the current companies buildings and equipment. Hire a Chief from outside of the area to head this department to avoid any favortism. The term Brotherhood is used alot when describing the fire service in this area that is a joke. Look at the Kingsdale thread on here granted their Deputy looked unprofessional in the picture and this topic should have never made the paper. When reading the post they started to slam other former and current companies and personel that had nothing to do with the article real proffesional the public loves that. There is still a few good people left in the area fire service and I wish them all good luck.

The people are all I care about, I can't help my friends and neighbors if I can't get my way all the time. These are things my grandfather and his friends and neighbors set out to do over 58 years ago. I never knew him but I feel apart of what they set out to do. Care about others and not my self. I to can say I don't care for everything my chief does is right but he is my leader now. And I do the best I can to help the people that need my help.Remember you only get out what you put in. I feel the best things in my life are my family and helping others. It sounds like some of you want more than you put in.I thank everyday that I can help people. That is all that matters.

Well, in today's paper Conewago Valley School District residents are going to see a 4.7-percent increase in their taxes this year. So with that in mind Conewago township taxpayers are going to get hit hard I must say.

With the 4.7% increase in the school tax and the taxes that this will generate such as a fire tax or higher property taxes we found a way to stop overdevelopment in the area. Now the taxes will be higher here then in Maryland and are roads still suck and our kids still have to share text books in school. Next will be the sales tax on clothes and food. It's gonna be a banner year.

WHY, People, why do we need a 5 million dollar fire station........We DON'T! If the old ones are in disrepair then repair them at a fraction of the cost. It's just another case of keeping up with the Jones'(Penn Twp.) It's not like we don't have any fire departments its just that SAVES wants to move 2 depts a total of about a quarter mile each down the road to the tune of 5 million dollars. Just doesn't make sense, but when its other peoples money you're spending thats the kind of hair brained ideas people come up with. Beware if the depts go to being paid the fun will be only just be getting started. Then there will be unions, we'll be paying for the firefighters insurances and most likely their entire families (sounding familiar yet)? We'll be paying for their retirement, & investments it will get out of hand just like the school districts and before you know it they will have the power to tax our property all on their own. Another entity with the power to TAX that is what I think their goal is.

Hmmmmmmm! Sounds just like what happened to the Hanover Fire Dept. some time back. It certainly did not hurt their performance. Volunteer fire departments are a thing of the past. Get professionals, pay them, and get good protection. You only get what you pay for. Days of free are long gone.
