In response to this I would like to say I am sorry for your lose. There is however a lot more that goes into this event than the papers and press and even people who knew these men know. Now we are all aware that drinking and driving is not a mature and logical thing to do. What was not mentioned in any of the papers and press is that all three men were drinking this night. All three men got into this car knowing it was a bad decision and knowing the consequencs of their actions that may happen. It is a terrible thing what happened to all three guys that night. It is hard on all three families, and even though two of them survived do you really think Hurd is having a long fufilling life right now? All three guys were friends, they were co-workers. Do you really think just beacause Hurd survived that he isn't living an eternal hell for being blammed for this? All three men made the decision to drink, and to who was actually driving I dont think any of us will really know. Accidents like this happen, and sadly they happen way to often but the reality of it is is that all three men made the choice to get in this car that night, they all let one man drive whoever that may be, and they all signed an unwritten agreement that whatever was about to happen, they were going to go through it together. I understand the deep dark anger that comes out of these events, I really do but there is no need to point fingers and be crued to one man when all three made the same choice. Being blammed for something like this is a taunting thing, it drives people crazy, it puts them in deep dark stages of depression. You said that giving hurd the maximum punishment would be sufficient for you, but what about his parents? He is already living in a prison of his own, not knowing what happened, not knowing what to do. His whole family is struggling too, just because he survived does not mean that they are not too grieving over this dreadful event. I am not bashing anyone or trying to put anyone down, I just have experienced something like this myself once and it doesn't do any good to point fingers, or blame one soul, when in reality three were equally involved.
People need to read a lot deeper than just what the press comes out with in their 30 sentence stories, there is a world of knowledge none of us will ever know about this accident.
Hurd did not walk away from this accident either, he has a life long battle he has to carry around on his shoulders, whether he actually was driving or not.
I hope that everyone who cared and loved the man who passed remember the great things about him. But also need to remember that Hurd is not a bad man, he is a human like all three of those men are and all humans make bad choices and bad decisions, and with this this event occured, but it is not fair to blame souly one man, just remember that.
~~An individual who has lost as well.
