I'm also looking for a copy of the book. Any suggestions below the outrageous prices quoted through the online companies? Thanks. Sonia

I am also looking for old photo's as well for CF. My mother and most of her family lived their during the late 20's and 30's. They worked in the Calhoun Mills. I think I will try and make a trip to CF's library to see if I can find archives of the town during that period. Have you had any luck Gean with your search?

I don't know if this will help any of you but I found an article,'Calhoun Falls culture change: After the mill closes', posted on the Anderson, SC newspaper website. It was posted in 2007. It gives a brief history of CF and mentions the book 'Tales of Calhoun Falls'(by Earnest M.“Whitey” Lander Jr... he wrote two books about CF).. maybe you can google some of the names/places mentioned in the article.. hopefully google will lead you to websites with photos.

My father was born and raised there and I am trying to get family history also. Dad is still around and remembers a lot of what happened in the 40's and 50's. I'm sure he would share if interested.
I have read City of Opportunity but had to order it through a small publishing company. don't remember the name but could look it up. Pretty good assortment of pictures there.

I have read about Calhoun Falls and know about the Indian attack, Calhoun, the route to Ga, how the wagoneers were attacked and scalped. How a mother escaped with her child while pregnant. They came from the deep south trying to settle in C.F s but, as always the calvary came through, still, so many lives including children was killed. Lena Horne Grandmother was a slave in the house with John C Calhoun. Her name was Annie. If you want to know about that city go on line. Save your money. It's not worth it.
