Has anyone seen the petition for this request?

Alot of people are sayin' they have to pass a drug screening to keep their jobs. There is supposed to be a petition circulating, it demands that anyone who recieves a social welfare check must also pass a drug screen.

First argument is that it would be too expensive to manage a drug screening campaign for every social welfare recipient.

First defense is that a mandatory drug test will disqualify half of the social welfare recipients in the first place.

What are your thoughts?

I agree with you. Can you imagine the cost to the taxpayer? Every body on welfare? Wow, aren't we already on tight budgets and isn't the government always crying broke? Oh, I do disagree on one point. The half of welfare recipients you are speaking of, well you should up that number to one-third. Although, maybe if they do this drug screening randomly as some employers do, it would help. Randomly,(like when they least expect it) you seem to end up knowing who is and who isn't using/abusing illegal drugs so by element of surprise you catch them. You do bring up some very interesting points to really seriously think about.

In the beginning it may cost, but, it will protect the investment later. It was also be nice to make them join the military. We are paying for it already we might as well get something out of it.

To expensive. Look the money they get per-kid allready. I say hell ye.

That was one of OBAMA's leading (CHANGES) in his great future for the country. BULLS&%T

Then we could get good roads in louisiana just that. But they wouldn't look at it that way.

...and....if it is determined that they DO have illicit drugs in their system......and DO have chemically dependency "issues"......that would entitle them to ADDITIONAL benefits and government funding..... Yes!

Take the cost of their drug test out of one of their checks a year............or how ever many drugs tests a year they may have. If they have to take one once a month, take it out of the money we are already giving them, we are paying for them anyway. Just a thought.

Also, if they are on welfare and have more children - cut the baby makers off and DO NOT RAISE THEIR FOODSTAMPS OR CHECKS.

I agree if they are on welfare make them take drug tests and take it out their checks. Its not right that they do nothing and get paid by the government for it. As long as the government keeps allowing them to stay on welfare and use drugs and do nothing then they will. Its not right to us taxpayers to have to pay for their drugs

I was in a local store the other day and heard a conversation that went like this: Well, if I cant find a job I can work Monday thru Friday, weekends off, holidays off, I might as well stay on my welfare......
WTF?????
I have worked two jobs to help support me and my family and to have people live off my taxes, this is just freaking sad. But as long as Obama is in office Im sure this is exactly what is going to keep on happenning.
Why shouldnt there be a time limit as to how long you can be on welfare? Why isnt someone checking to see if these people are really out there looking for a job or being schooled for something that they could use to get a job? God forbid they have to work as a cna, janitor, etc??? Too bad we cant all be Mike Rowe and get paid millions to do dirty jobs......

Are you saying that nobody took advantage of social welfare until Obama came on the scene? Here's some news for ya, this isn't a new problem.

You make an interesting discovery. Maybe welfare should be incorporated into our unemployment compensation programs and have those same time limited benefits...outside of reasonable excepttions.

You just made that story up. What is welfare? What is the official name of the program you call welfare? Nobody in Louisiana gets a check to stay home. They may get medicare, they may get foodstamps, and they may get section 8 help for their rent. But they do not get a paycheck to sit home. On top of that, A single mom can still get all the above benefits while working.

In the context of this discussion, we are talking all SOCIAL WELFARE PROGRAMS that provide opportunities where people can find a way to pull up from a cycle of poverty. As a society in whole, we all benefit when we lift our neighbors up.

This discussion focuses on whether or not a benefactor of those Social Welfare programs should be subjected to a drug test. Nobody has any problem granting welfare to a single mom who needs the benefit and is working to improve. A piss test should be no problems for the person who can qualify under the conditions of trying to help themselves.

The habitual drug addict needs to get help but they need their own budget all alone and let Social Welfare programs focus on promoting positive efforts in society.
