this tax does not eliminate the property tax with a sales tax. the property tax will expire in 2009 a was dedicated for maintenance and major repairs.this new sales tax according to bob leblancs statement in the meridinal is to offset the losses from medicare and medicaid payments. it will also help to pay for the patients who are admitted thru the emergency room who have no money but refuse to go to charity hospital in lafayette.it will be interesting to see if the taxpayers are willing to support a tax for this with the already high sales tax burden we have in vermilion parish.(abbeville 8.5%, maurice 8.75%)

With inflation roaring like a China Earthquake, we are again told that a tax is needed for our own good. Forget the fact that the beggars are our servers, not our masters. Socialism is here and it will destroy us. Already we at the mercy of 100 dollar haircuts and 1000 dollars suits in Washington, and Baton Rouge wants to imitate that. What next, the anti-christ?

I think all they want to do is give us a better hospital. I don't think they will cut there hair with the money. Let's not forget they will be eliminating the property taxes with the passage of that sales tax. At least that way everyone will be paying for the service. A sales tax is the best and fairest way to provide a public service. So you guys out there printing negative propaganda need to focus on the positive of the hospital.

the point here definitely is to have a better hospital...it is a fair price to pay for IMPROVING an establishment that provides a public service to us all at some point or another. "100 dollar haircuts" and "1000 dollar suits" are a choice- obviously one which some people value more than maintaining a healthcare facility which provides public service to all and compensating it for financial loss...this tax increase is a choice as well...YOU decide what is important and don't be as ignorant as to toss it up to socialism.

tax, tax, tax.... the property tax is said to EXPIRE in 2009, so you would not be replacing it with a new tax you would just be adding a new tax. why not leave the taxes as is and start cutting some of the GIFT programs we have out their. Maybe start getting a few people off their bu--- instead of watching you and me work while collecting their checks

I've heard a private company out of lafayette or baton rouge has offered to take over the hospital, but that the hospital board won't approve it. Let someone else pay for it for a change.

No matter how much money is dumped into AGH's ledgers it will still be the same crappy hospital as it is now. Does it really matter to Ray Landry to see to it that we have what we need right here in good ol' Abbeville? I bet if we give them more money what AGH will do for us is make our emergency waits even longer than the average 3 hours and take away more valuable services.

Go to Kaplan. The wait is almost non existtent. Ray Landry is a puppett for the hospital board. Every boby need to vote, becaus Mr. Landry is hope for a low turn out. That is why the election was not skedule for October. And by skedule the election in July, it costed the taxpayer more money. I heard this from a hospital board member. Mr. Landry cant get job at the new hospital be built because he piss off doctors who work at Abbeville General. My docter told me. When the new hospital be built, they want even operate at Abbeville General because they be treated bad. That Abbeville General Hospital need to be made into a veternary hospital. That be all it be good far. Mr. Landry try to fool us. My doctor told me he will make his office be open 24 hour a day all year if they close the emergency room. Mr. Landry be tring to black male us. My doctor told me Abbeville General get money from the goverment from patents and from insuranse company and they have a lot of money but they say they be broke.

If we vote yes then they tax us twice one be a sales tax and other be a property tax becaus the property tax don't stop until 2010. A hospital board memeber told me. Then in 2010 they renew the property tax. We still be pay 2 taxes. The positive of the hospital be it might be good enough for a animal hospital. I wouldno't send my grandchildren's their or go their myself. If they want to be fare they drop the property tax now.
