the city will give them a reasonable time to either tear down the building or repair it. If the owners refuse the city demolishes the building and puts a lien on the property and if the grass gets tall if the owner refuses to cut it then the city cuts it and puts another lien on the property. So shortly the eyesore will be gone. Due to strict ordinances like this the city stays clean, therefore winning the state competition for cleanest city.

You must be on the cleanest city committee. Ya'll have missed many areas. Would you like a list? I'm sure you know where they are because ya'll never ride the judges down those roads. know many young people who have moved away from Abbeville, and you would think they would answer for jobs, but they all say Abbeville is a dirty town!

Poor neighbors is right. I feel sorry for the ones live right there with the crap-fountain in their backyard. Dudes been trying to sell that house now for what...years. The city needs to buy that property from him, do them a favor and plant some trees to block the view of brown water.

Abbeville needs to start having more restrictions about tree cutting, dwellings on a lot, yard upkeep. It would be great if South State could get rid of the tangled mess of utility lines overhead. Looks terrible!

we do have restrictions on yard upkeep. Junked cars and tall grass is not allowed. There are requirements on how close a house can be from another house and the property line I am on the planning commission and got CVS to pay the city $2500 for cutting down a live oak. Also we passed a tree ordinance recently. We can only do so much. 700 junked cars have been removed in the last several years. A lot of us are volunteers and we do this in our spare time

The city itself needs to do more. I have several houses, none of which have sidewalks and all have ditches in front of the house, which leaves no where to park on the street.I think the city needs to worry about it's upkeep a little more, less about mine. And no Fred I don't want to buy any more!!! not in Abbeville anyway.

Restricting the cutting of trees is an excellent point. I see people all the time cut down trees that have been there for like, 150 years, cause they interfere with their foundation or they dont want to take care of them or whatever.
The reality here is that it took a few months to build that house, but when that tree's gone, its gone...and you wind up with another ex-canefield lookin' house, all bare nekkid around it.
Maybe I value the trees much more than most, but I would fix and redesign, or even tear down that house and build another...or move it..to save an old healthy tree.
And $2500.00, for an old tree? It is a great gesture and glad you did that to CVS, but it should have been MUCH more. They pay more than that to paint the stripes on the parking lot where that majestic old tree used to be.

the money has to be used for tree maintaince. The mayor is also a tree lover and it was his idea for us to have a tree ordinance and we ran from there

Has any of you passed and seen this so called mechanic shop on John Hardy. the place caught fire and it looks like they are working out of the parking lot. junk and burnt cars are all over the place. it appears they were building a fence and i'm sure it was beacuse of complaints now its worse than ever. what about this so called smart zone code the city has. what i heard was if you live in a smart zone the mayor has to give permission to build or add any inprovment on property that you own.How is the city allowing them to still operate and why is this not being cleaned up. i pass that way on the way to work and its a eye sore. i can't imagine what the neighbors are thinking

The judges thought so so your opinion does not count. I was not using cocaine that recently. I was the chairman so I should get the credit along with all the city council, Mayor, Sheriff, Ricky at solid waste, Sandra Cresswell, Charlene Beckett, Kirk Frith, Prisioners, The Garden Club, my wife, the city workers, Keep Abbeville Beautiful, Chief Hardy, Abbeville Police Officers, Wendell at the courthouse, and a lot of others, and the citizens and businesses that went the extra mile like Robies.
