Where did the email come from? NOt all emails are accurate. remember the wal mart gang shooting one. turns out that wasn't real.
Is there a website that has this info to back it up? If the bridge is that bad, wouldn't it be closed? just wondering

If the 18 wheelers get across it your bike will too. I crossed it a couple of months ago and it was a little bumpy, but that is the norm for all bridges and roads in Louisiana.

HOAX ALERT:“Dangerous bridge”
Officials say emails about I-10 bridge in Lake Charles are not true
By James Shannon, Staff Writer

After a brief investigation, The Examiner has learned that widespread concerns about the safety of the giant I-10 bridge at Lake Charles over the Calcasieu River were triggered by an email that has been described as a “hoax.”

According to the email, the danger was “revealed” at a public meeting held by a Louisiana congressman where a former state official reportedly claimed he drove all the way around Loop 210 to avoid the bridge, fearing it is in danger of imminent collapse.

Theresa Martin, an aide to Rep. Charles Boustany, described the email as a “hoax.”

A statement from William D. Ankner, Ph.D., head of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), sought to counter assertions in the phony email and stated the official position in no uncertain terms:

“The Interstate 10 bridge in Lake Charles is safe. Former DOTD Secretary Kam Movassaghi assures DOTD that he did not make the disparaging remarks that are attributed to him in an email about the condition of the bridge. It is irresponsible for individuals to leverage Dr. Movassaghi's excellent reputation, causing panic among citizens.”

Ankner specifically addressed his department’s monitoring of bridge safety in general and the I-10 bridge in particular:

“If the bridge were not safe, I would close it immediately, as I have done dozens of times for other bridges across Louisiana. DOTD wants to replace the I-10 bridge, which is more than 50 years old, and we are looking at long-term funding options. In the meantime, we will maintain our ban of overweight trucks and continue our aggressive inspection and repair schedules to keep the bridge in safe condition.”

I got the same email today, but found a link via MSNBC showing safety ratings for LA bridges... It appears they are talking about the RailRoad Bridge which is a 24... The I-10 Roadway Bridge is like a 78. something. You can read the results for yourself at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20099075

I wonder if Amtrak takes that bridge... Hmmnnnn.
