I only had the secondary package with cox. I have home phone, internet and t.v. T.V. was 58.00 per month. My total package was 126.00 per month for all I had. I been getting these Direct T.V. and Dish network flyers in the mail offering more t.v. for less money.
I went to Cox in Abbeville last week, and I told her to remove t.v. service from my package. She asks why I am stopping t.v. service. I tell her that I'm going with Direct T.V. which will give me more double the channels for 42.00 a month for the first year, and the regular rate after a year is going to be less than their 58.00 which is the price I am paying for 70 channels.
Here is the point I was playing. I knew they had a discount program to try and reel you back onboard. She says "I might be able to put you on our retainer program." I say to her "please explain"
It then became ovious she wasn't very familiar with it. She fumbled and dug around the desk and five minutes later she pulls out a card and says "call this number and they'll tell you what to do." I ask her how much is this temporary discount. She says "they'll take 20 percent off your bill for a couple months." I fire back. "CUT IT OFF" "Not Good Enough" and then she fills out the cancel order. Two days later I go to best buy and sign up for Direct T.V.
Three days later a cox rep from out of state calls and says "I see you removed T.V. service from your package." I tell him " yeah, I'm going with direct t.v."
He comes back and says "If you re-instate, i'll take 40 percent off of your entire bill, internet, phone and t.v." "for an entire year"
I said "wow, thats not bad" (this would have taken my 51.00 off my 126.00 bill per month)
I said. I wish she would have told me about this plan when I was in the office. I've already signed up for Direct t.v.
He then says "if they haven't installed it yet, you can cancel it. I said "well buddy, you're a day late and a dollar short.

My point in all this, is that you can get a hell of a discount if you walk in the office, and says "cut me off" I'm going with Direct t.v. Then just sit home and about 6 p.m. you'll get the call begging you to come back. But you have to be willing to live without your precious cable for a few days.

Cox will one day go the way of AT&T They'll become a secondary player in the t.v. cable business.

Cox is great at increasing and increasing and seeing how deep they can drill you with their increases. For instance, a DVD player can be had for 50 dollars theses days but if you have a DVR from Cox they will milk you with a 20 dollar per month lease on that device for ever. Forget the fact that it probably is a used unit that was paid for by other Cox sheep 5 times over. Then of course you have to go to their digital tier which is another upgrade for that DVR to even work. When my bill jumped up 10 bucks one month for no reason I took the DVR down to COX and told them to cancel my Cox cable tv service completely. Just like MYSTERYMIX wrote, with 48 hours they were calling with unheard of deals to get me back into their fold. Apparently any dollar was better than zero dollars from me. I told COX exactly what Mysterymix said and that was they were a day late and dollar short. I still get internet from COX but I get a discount by calling their RETENTION department every six months when the bill goes up. Just got off the phone with those folks. Anyways, you'd be surprised how you can live without cable tv service. 8 bucks per month from Netflix for streaming movies and shows and a digital converter for free over the air tv and you still can watch more crap then you need to. The next phase will be to drop phone service and just use majicjack plus or Google voice. Maybe Google cable will come to town and put COX down and out and I'm all on board with that.

Direct TV will do the same to you. Give them time and they will increase fees on you at ramdom. Yep, when I told DTV I was cancelling and going with Netflix and regular old style rabbit ear television they called me off and on for about a month offering all kinds of goodies to get me back. I held my ground and never accepted. I wanted to get away from satellite tv for a while for mine and my families sake. They keep feeding you the same shit over and over again and charge you more as time goes by. 150 channels and nothng to watch is the norm. Its all part of a mind control program set in motion by time travelers from the future that have come here to change us in order to affect their reality in the future. They are doing it within our government, our news media, within our economy system, and also our gun rights. Oh it goes real deep! Fuck Cox, DTV, Dish Network, Fox, and Rupert Murdoch!

I agree with all yall about the tv services like cox. they are sneaky sob's about raising the cost especially with the taxes and other fees. a 50 dollar plan ends up costing 65 by the time they nickel and dime you to death. gotta be a better way! now, about the time travelers, no evolved being would bother with us. 10 minutes on this planet and they'd know we were a bunch of knotheads and move on.

Then if you think about it, we are paying them big bucks so that we can watch all of their commercials. I can understand a 125.00 electric bill, as it costs money to maintain a power generating facility. But 125.00 for a t.v. signal. What do we get, airwaves. How much does that cost to maintain.

Monkey, It's good to see others questioning everything....many won't even consider the points that you make and will form conclusions without even taking a moment to check if there's any substance to it. Google is at their fingertips, yet it still doesn't happen. I rather know truth, reality, propaganda be damned. Maybe ignorance really is bliss.

cox membership must be diving. I dropped them and stiffed them for their last bill over 16 months ago. I haven't gotten any threats of a suit. They will not pursue legal action.

To get me to sign up with cox cable they offered it to me for free for a year. The first bill was 60$. They said that was for installation. The second bill was over 23$ for taxes and the third bill was over 60$ again for the service. That time they said "nothing is free, this is corporate America, that promotion ended last month!" I think these guys should really be stopped. Weve been swindled into paying for a service that's priced way over what was agreed upon. As customers weve been treated unfairly. Its not the way business is supposed to operate, but theyve got people hooked and willing to pay the price. Is television worth selling ourselves short? I couldnt pay so my service will be off soon. I wont agree to their offers because i wont support a company who conducts business as they do. Anyone interested in suing?

I can't stand Cox, but as far as internet goes they are the best in the area and we need it for our jobs. The tv service is not even mediocre. I called the other day to see if they would work with me and they told me that was the best they could do. We pay 180$ a month that is ridiculous. At one point our service was so bad they sent 3 technicians out in one week, none of them had any idea what they were doing! One even broke our entertainment center! If I can convince my husband to let me drop them at least for television I will. How does a company conduct business like this?!

I walked in the office and said "cut me off" for TV service. They offered me nothing....not even a discount. Still canceled. Saving over $57 having internet and Netflix!

I am now on ATT Uverse for internet. It seems to be dependable and fast. I can't complain. You are correct, the people in the office don't seem interested in keeping customers. They act like they don't care. It was only after I canceled, did I get a phone call from out of state asking me to come back at a big discount for a year.

I watch only 5 channels all of the time. I don't have a box because COX wanted too much money for that access. This bare bones crap deal costs $75/mo! I live in the French Quarter where dishes are illegal and ATT can't get access to the lines or so they say, so I am in the land of monopoly. I found out that these services have to get permission from the Utilities Dept. of the city of N.O. to raise rates, so they are partly responsible. Of course this dept. doesn't have any way for a common peon who pays their salary to reach them, so I emailed the mayor about this outrageous ripoff for what good that would do. The mayor never replied. I did cancel the phone and internet from COX and got ATT for two years and am happy so far. Corporations are people now so unless we vote for the right people, we will continue to escalate the screw job.

I've had it with Cox. They just drafted an extra $77 from my checking to bring monthly bill to $194/mo for basic cable and high speed Internet. The high speed Internet is $53/month. I was paying $122/mo total bill and Cox said I was getting a discounted price for last 2 years as a loyal long term customer... the loyalty rate expired in April. So I am actively searching alternatives in the Lafayette, LA city area. I will keep Cox Internet for now but seek options for television. Going to store to buy a digital antennae to try out. Really frustrated with Cox Cable TV rates. Will visit LUS and AT&T soon if digital antennae idea has really poor picture.

mine jumped like hell too. I am info dummy with what a digital antenna does. Will it only pick up local channels or will it pick up the channels you are currently catching on Cox Cable? Just for my TV 'a it is well over $120 a month after all those taxes. Please advise because people can't pay.$1500 just for their TV to catch cable. I tried satellite and was cheaper but then I lostu bundle discount making it the same price plus it does not work in bad weather when needed the most.
