I have seen articles linking earlier onset puberty to the prevalence of more hormones in the foo chain, specifically chickens. It is puberty in general and not breast development in particular but obviously the two are linked.

There's a theory that bovine growth hormone is responsible for much of the early development of girls that we are currently seeing. I stick to organic milk for that reason; we'll see if it worked in about 5 years...

Also 12 yo girls might be able to conceive and carry a baby to term, but their bodies are not ready to actually birth those babies. Many 12 yo moms-to-be in developing countries have horrible labors, like for days, and end up dying in childbierth, having still-births and get lovely medical problems like a fistula; which is basically a rip in your bladder which causes you to constantly drip urine. These girls are then shunned from their families because they smell bad and even though the remedy for a fistula is a pretty simple surgery, the health care is so poor in these places that it's rarely done, or costs too much for these girls to afford, and they end up living a totally miserable life.

No way, no how, should a 12 yo be having a baby anyway. She's still a child herself.

Wow. A classmate of mine was a C cup in fourth grade and I thought that was early. However, now that I think back, she may have been a year older than the rest of the class. She had to change schools a lot. Anyway, it was unusual and the boys definitely snickered, but she handled it with grace. She had the personality to take it in stride.

My ex-SIL was developed like that by the middle of 8th grade. The boys reacted predictably and unfortunately she couldn't or didn't want to combat the attention. By the time we graduated high school she had been engaged 3 times (mid Vietnam War. At least 2 of the guys were shipmates in the Navy). I knew her parents well . She had well fitted, actually special fitted bras, decent clothes and parents who were not particularly screwed up on the issue. As I recall they offered her a bust reduction surgery ostensibly to help the gouges in her shoulder and her upper back pain in roughly 1968 and she turned it down. But she wasn't real good academically and didn't have the strength of personality to move past the male attention.

Two years out of high school she married fiance number 4 which turned out to be the first of her 3 husbands. Not all of that can be attributed to having big boobs at an early age but I think he life would have been very different as a C cup

No, not "Much sooner." MOre like four months (max) for every 20 years.

And a lot of that is tied to obesity. Fat girl = earlier breast development, simply because of the fat.

FWIW, puberty onset has been measurably declining since the mid-1800s. We weren't really eating a lot of hormone-laden food back then. This could be largely evolutionary. After all, the earlier you can have babies, the more babies you can have, and that is the only real goal of life on this planet: TO continue your own species.

That is true but a bit misleading. It is not just fat deposits. What they have learned from the menopause and cancer side of things is that the more body fat a woman has the higher her hormone levels ( of certain hormones I assume). I don't recall if I have read the biochemical explanation. But there is an association with high BMI and hormone receptive breast cancers.

On a slightly different note, the other day one of teh credible medical journals published an article noting that people who get Alzheimer's are less likely to get cancer and people who have cancer are less likely to get Alzheimer's. Can you show me Door Number 3 please?

From the mid-1800s through about the 1950s, the decline in puberty onset tracks strongly with the decline in starvation and malnutrition in the first world. Healthier, well-fed children generally entered puberty earlier. And the overall average age of onset decreased as fewer children underwent periods of starvation/malnutrition.

Young men, on the other hand, think that wearing their jeans super loose and low, revealing their underwear, is an attractive look.

I have seen young men where the waistband of their pants is COMPLETELY BELOW their buttocks. Gross.

I've seen that, too, and with a belt. And they say women are fashion slaves.

For the record, I have never liked or used hairspray. I like my hair to feel soft.
