While I could not live the life she is living and have no advice to offer her that would not rock the boat she's living in, only she can determine how important her family's culture is to her. Hearing you refer to it as treating her as a sub human...I cant help but point out what seems to be hypocrisy.1: Shame and honor? Geez....will she be killed "honorably" if she moves out? I'm sick of cultures seeing women as sub-humans.
Some time ago, someone(me?) posted a story about a judge who was brutally whipping his 16 year old daughter for the grand offense of getting on the internet. If PETA saw an animal getting whipped the way she was, they'd have gone nuts. I'd say that sub-human would be a pretty good classification of that episode.
But you did not really have a problem with what dad did. It seemed normal to you. In fact I feel like you said it might not have been to far from how you were raised. Am I remembering incorrectly?
To refresh your memory.
What do you say to people who think THIS is more of an example of treating someone like a sub human?
