While I could not live the life she is living and have no advice to offer her that would not rock the boat she's living in, only she can determine how important her family's culture is to her. Hearing you refer to it as treating her as a sub human...I cant help but point out what seems to be hypocrisy.

Some time ago, someone(me?) posted a story about a judge who was brutally whipping his 16 year old daughter for the grand offense of getting on the internet. If PETA saw an animal getting whipped the way she was, they'd have gone nuts. I'd say that sub-human would be a pretty good classification of that episode.

But you did not really have a problem with what dad did. It seemed normal to you. In fact I feel like you said it might not have been to far from how you were raised. Am I remembering incorrectly?

To refresh your memory.

What do you say to people who think THIS is more of an example of treating someone like a sub human?

Grief, you're so self-righteously annoying.
If you advocate mu8rdering your child, then I cannot communicate with you.

Unfortunately, you've misunderstood me and I've seemingly misunderstood you. I don't think of "honor killings" as part and parcel of any culture. I see that as the act of some extremist. When you were indicating your distaste, I assumed you were just speaking in general of the kinds of things the lw described. A culture that seems more permissive of what the males can do while having way more strict expectations/codes of conduct for females. Things like what the lw describes. How her life is comletely under her parents control. How even as an adult, she can be forbidden to do certain things, no privacy, no autonomy, all her actions are judged against how it reflects on the family. That is what I was referring to and what I assumed you were referring to. I'm certainly not comparing murder to beating your child.
