Shh! Jon S will get upset. So upset in fact that he may drop his conditioner while he's working on his ponytail.

Apparently he can't handle the truth.

Don't reckon he did Tommy.

What's the over/under on Saluki Rod's Downers Grove mortgage payment? I say $2,500, on a $3,000 income. Did your wife have to pick up an extra shift at 7-11?

Not a bad comeback at all Jon. They must have given you computer time at the sheltered workshop today. Good for you, now go back to stringing beads.

15-20 years? That's when Berwyn started going downhill.

Short term memory issues?

Yes, Berwyn can get back to 6 years ago. Long after it was starting to swirl down the toilet...

Let none of us forget that all of these positive developments began during the term of former Mayor Mike O'Connor and the diligent work of officials and volunteers of the Independent Voters of Berwyn.
Promoting Berwyn to the arts & music crowd was a stroke of genius that many so-called "old schoolers" resented.
The only thing they did, really, was get rid of the "old guard." OC had a chance to have everyone eating from the palm of his hand and blew it.

Now even more of the old guard is "in," and the payoffs have already started.

Wrong. The day Shaugnessy, or however that drunk spells it, took over, was when it went downhill. Fast. That red faced rummy introduced section 8, and the downfall, to Berwyn. Then he decide to hand out multiple contracts to the Marzullo clan and Sonny Stillo to run the city, while he got paid handsomely to do nothing but bar hop.

The day the drunk got elected, was the day a decent suburb died.

You bring up some good points except one -- how does a mayor "introduce Section 8?" That's a federal program administered by HUD and is a deal between a landlord and that agency. The city has nothing to do with it.

Besides Berwyn only had something like 110 Section 8 vouchers as of 2008 anyway. Oak Park has over 600.

"Section 8" is code word, to borrow Jon S terminology, for people who are really saying there's black people moving into Berwyn.

Are any of you guys leasing agents?
We're looking to rent a unit within walking distance to Dominican University (I'm starting as a student there in the fall, and we don't have a car)......so Cicero and Berwyn would be a great place to live.
We're moving from West Virginia, so we have to sign a lease before viewing the unit. We are a family of 5 plus one cat.
Sounds like you guys love the place, so e-mail me at: chicago_apt4cheap@hotmail.com.

I'll sell you our condo in North Berwyn, but beware there are many section 8's around here and they are crazy! Just recently a young girl was in front of our condo building with a hammer in her windsheild. Apparently some gang banger girls did it.
Then one night at 3am some 25 or so black people were arguing and fighting in an apartment building across the street. They were soooo loud that several people called the police because when I called they said a few people had already called. Well it took the police about 15 minutes to come and it took them forever to get them off the street. Then 10 minutes later they were at it again. This whole fiasco lasted about 2 hrs and they woke up my infant daughter with their swearing and banging bodies on cars. The next morning I left to go to work out and there were pieces of what was obviously a black woman's weave flying out of my windshield and all over my car were cigarette butts.
I have some other stories but yeah North Berwyn STINKS! South Berwyn is MUCH, MUCH nicer so if your looking for affordable, you'll see North Berwyn is that but here is where the problems are, if you have $300K to drop on a home then South Berwyn is for you. Right now my place is going for 99K and we bought it for 170K its all new inside and the neighbors on my side in the 2br units are quiet. It's the ones in the back in the 1br units that throw parties and make a bunch of noise. And the kids around here all walk around like gang bangers and I hears a pair of 12yr old black girls call another 12-13 yr old white girl a hoe the other day.

We are moving to Riverside because my son is starting school next year and I'm not sending him to school with kids like that.

let me know it is for sale but not on the market yet.

People woduln't dare cite the faults or say anything negative about precious Rogers Park, Albany Park, Logan Square and (supposedly) up-and-coming Humboldt Park, but everyone seems to love to put down Berwyn for everything, even though it's a far more pleasant neighborhood that those just mentioned could ever be.

Those areas are infested with high theft and battery rates, gang actvity, and frequent shootings and rapes (I know a girl who was a victim of one in RP). Yet all over, they are being touted as "hot areas" with the buy-word "diverse."

I know people, both white and Latino, who moved to Berwyn from those blighted areas, filled with horror stories.

While going to school in Rogers Park I've been followed there in the day, caught ne'er do wells using the hood of my car to deal drugs on, and know many people who've had thier cars broken into or stolen, plus have thier apartments broken into.

But it's a "diverse" neighborhood in the North Side, so it must be a great place to live in.

Granted, Berwyn's got got a ways to go to repair the mistakes of corruption, but it's getting there. The schools are good, especially the private ones. I know several dedicated teachers who work in both North and South Berwyn. They're definately trying to keep the kids on track and in class, not on the street like in a ghetto.

And to those who can't bear the thought of seeing faces that aren't white: move to the North Pole. It's very hard to find a completely homogenous white suburb in the Chicago area.

Outstanding sales pitch. You make your condo sound so tempting. Are you a realtor? You should write home descriptions for ReMax, seriously.
