United leaves their facility on O'Hare's doorstep to relocate downtown? Hmmmmm.... Perhaps now they'll increase the number of Metra North Central trains going between Union Station and O'Hare?

Nah - that'd make too much sense.

"The deal will bring Chicago an infusion of white-collar jobs that should help spur spending downtown and investment in housing within the city."

Did anyone poll the employees to see how many of them will move to Chicago? Is the CPS ready for their children?:-D

So now United is moving into Taxpayer Tower with an incentive provided by the City. Meanwhile the owners of Taxpayer Tower are some of the savviest investors around (obviously, they jointly command real estate worth one billion US dollars), yet the City of Chicago seems to be first in line to award taxpayer money to now every firm that wants to lease premium downtown office space in Taxpayer Tower.

And what incentives do the employees get for using public transit to get to the Big Willie??
Well unlike automobile commuters, CTA and Metra riders get to right off transportation expenses pre-tax on their federal income taxes annually. If they no longer need their cars they don't have to pay car insurance or fuel and the taxes that go along with it. So their is considerable advantages for commuter to work in a central location.

Poll the employees?
IF we move to Sears tower as I will always call it, everyone needs to remember that after the move they will at least still have a job..
So set the alarm clock an extra 20-30 mins early and thank god on your way out that at the end of the week, you still get a paycheck..

so, United will have more employees and space there then the guido from NJ, does this mean it will now be the United Tower instead of the Sears Tower?

Alderman Robert Fioretti is going to be run out of office for allowing some semen stain from NJ to rename the Sears Tower. Maybe we should all be investigating him and what sort of payoff he and Daley got.

And why is it the new Sears Tower management--a building on the southside--is flying a cubs flag instead of a White Sox flag??

All and all it's time to make sure Fioretti finds out what unemployment and perhaps prison mean.

That sucks for those people that have to commute into downtown.

I will be able to sleep in, take the metra, save gas, and be at work quicker than driving from Downers Grove to Ohare.

Ps- I am not the biggest fan of Daley by any means but..... you people crack me up. EVERY article that mentions him you come on here and blabber a bunch of Bull. The guy has done great things for this city. He has also screwed up like every Human on this planet. Try running a city this big and see how many times you make mistakes. I guarantee you, there is not another person that Loves this city and will do more for this city than Daley and that pains me to say that. He is always voted by the rest of the country (including here) as a top 5 mayor for a reason. I am sure a few of you will come on here with your NO fact based rants but thats ok?? Most of us already know.

God help you if you ever move to another BIG CITY, then you will see what trouble and bad mayors are. Maybe Dubuque Iowa Huh?? or Minfhfgfugnghfhff Wisconsin or maybe North Dakota will work. Of Course you will have to buy a checker set first because thats all you will be doing for the rest of your life except maybe...... Seeing a Movie in their 25 seat theater thats 50 years old.
This city has everything Imaginable for a person to do and as far as Large Cities go, its fairly cheap to live when you put everything together. It is much cheaper in Minfhgguifjfhfyhujgjgf Wisconsin though.

Either way.... Good Luck to you.

Yep, before Chicago starts spending any of that new 'United cash' they really should talk to Indy. United got that city and state to pony up for construction of a second aircraft Maintenance Operations Center there.
Once built, United simply abandoned the property, then had their financial obligation wiped out by the bankruptcy judge.
Hey.. forget Indianapolis, talk to any of their current/former employees who had their promised/earned retirements taken from them in chapter 11 too..

I'm of retirement age, my little pension dropped from 2100 a month to 673 dollars..(it's better than nothing though).

My point is that this company is screwing everyone along the way.. Chicago is just the next willing screwee to step forward and bend over.

Will the building come down in some attack/event? Who gives a rats behind?

The current location is so far from any useful public transit that it's almost a crime. The new location will put nearly anyone in the Chicago metro area within an easy train ride to the new ops center.

Bravo, United, for choosing a dense area for your business. your employees will be enormously happy with their proximity to tourism, great food for lunch, and various cultural events that are easy to attend after work.

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Leo

If there have been slight tensions or frictions between you and a loved one recently, this is the perfect day to get them out into the open, thrash them out and then forget about them. Things could get quite heated in the process but don't worry because they'll work out all right in the end. Put as much energy into kissing and making up as you did in arguing!
