Huh. United Airlines as part of the Big Willie that goes high up in the sky. Rich (and accurate) symbolism.

That sucks for those people that have to commute into downtown.

Have fun getting mugged, panhandled, raped, and assaulted... and that's just from the Chicago city government.

Chicago officials need to consider how United screwed the City of Indianapolis in closing an operations center built in the early 90s and closed in the early 00s, before making a mistake in incentivizing a company and an industry with a questionable and shaky business model and history.

Hold on all the crabby people that post on the trib are always telling me no one wants to be in the city and everyone avoids it at all costs. Talking to them you'd think no one is happy in the city. What happened?

Yep, before Chicago starts spending any of that new 'United cash' they really should talk to Indy. United got that city and state to pony up for construction of a second aircraft Maintenance Operations Center there.

Once built, United simply abandoned the property, then had their financial obligation wiped out by the bankruptcy judge.

Hey Fred, thanks for your sage advice. We can barely hear you here, what with the war against the barbarians and the helots we got going here. We're barely hanging on here, but we really appreciate your advice and comforting remarks. Thanks a lot.

And do say hi to all the friendly shoppers at the mall.

Gosh darn, any friend of Fred is friend of us here in Sodom & Gomorrah. Don't look back from the mall or you'll turn into a pillar of salt.

Say hi to the Righteous People out your way Nic. We appreciate their concern.

Sooooo…. Mayor Daley offers UAL cash incentives (bribe) to relocate operations to sears tower. The prudent corporation sees opportunity to move into remodeled space at little or no expense to shareholders. The City of Chicago fills prime commercial space, but makes concessions that diminish the benefit of filling the space. (AKA no real tax benefit for Chicago taxpayers) Elk Grove Village sees enormous increase in vacant commercial space, making it necessary to redistribute the real estate tax burden by increasing the real estate tax rate for all remaining taxpayers. Elk Grove Village school districts realize considerable loss of real estate tax revenue that must be offset by remaining taxpayers. The net result is the corporation pays less tax, government passes tax revenue loss onto other property owners, and the hard working, taxpaying middle class backbone of America is screwed again. Sounds like the AIG bailout BS doesn’t it…WAKE UP AMERICA.

Isn't that the truth. Maybe all the bounteous harvest from LensCrafter, GNC, Crabtree and Evelyn, Payless Shoe Source, Cinnabon, and Hickory Farms available to them at the Mall isn't enough to make them happy. Maybe they need to think we are unhappy to make them feel happy.

But I'm here to reassure them that they are living the Good Life and to Thank Their Lucky Stars they live in the Peaceable Kingdom, only a pebble's throw from The Mall of Righteousness.

If only we could be so lucky.
