Trust In Government Hits All Time Low As Obama Bombs Iraq

"Hard to remember that there was ever a time when Americans routinely trusted the government"

by Steve Watson | | August 8, 2014

A new CNN/ORC International poll indicates that trust in the government has fallen to an all time low, sinking even further than levels documented at the height of the Watergate scandal when the President was about to be impeached.

According to the poll, only 13 percent of Americans believe the government can be trusted to do what is right always or most of the time. More than three-quarters said the government can only be trusted some of the time, with a full ten percent saying that the government can NEVER be trusted.

“The number who trust the government all or most of the time has sunk so low that it is hard to remember that there was ever a time when Americans routinely trusted the government,” CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said in a statement.

During the Watergate scandal, in 1972, 53 percent still said they had trust in the government. Over the two years that the scandal dragged on, that figure dropped to 36 percent. That is still double the amount that now believe the government can be trusted most of the time.

A similar survey earlier in the week, conducted by NBC and The Wall Street Journal, found that 79 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with the president and the political system as a whole.

Last month, a separate CNN/ORC International poll found that over a third of Americans feel that President Obama should be impeached and thrown out of office for consistently acting beyond his authority.

The findings come at a time when the globe is seemingly descending into chaos.

A new cold war between Russia and the US seems to now be in full swing, the government continues to provide aid to Israel as it bombs Gaza into the stone age, the World Health organisation has declared a global Ebola emergency, the US borders are being overrun, and US air strikes on Iraq have been initiated in an attempt to offset what the government describes as the build up to genocide.

Of course, there has been no mention of the fact that many of the the ISIS terrorists currently carrying out the untold violence were backed by the US and the West in Libya and Syria. America’s biggest allies continue to openly fund the terror group.

In response to the military action in Iraq, the US dollar, and shares, have sunk amid fears of another drawn-out conflict in the region. Gold and oil, meanwhile, have risen with investors wary of global tension.
