I have a simple solution to the whole mess. Eliminate all the different types of welfare and stick to 1. The government has decided based on the standard deduction and exemptions on income tax how much it costs to live in this country. If you make less you qualify for assistance but no more than the standard deduction and the personal exemption. If you make more you don't.

As the friend of a social worker, I can tell you that the welfare office does have fingerprinting and photo ID measures in place.

The vast majority of people who speak out about welfare and food stamps don't wish to deny those benefits to the truly needy. However, they do wish the system was more fair and more efficient than it is though. There are a lot of people getting welfare and food stamps that do not need them and do abuse the system, precisely bacause it is administered by your the brain dead government and its cumbersome plodding ways..

You are creating non facts to support your biases.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage.”

NObama is successfully leading us from apathy to dependency with bondage & oppression not far behind.

Sure, Republicans work your butt off so can increase the welfare of the non working and welfare recipients. Give more until you bleed to death.

But during this time of hardship, it's not only the Republicans, but also the democrats who are working their butts off paying taxes so the welfare recipients can survive.

What a miserable life paying taxes and more taxes leving the take home pay not even enough to meet both ends.

Nobody wants to get RID of the program, just make sure that people are not abusing it.

It come to a lousy 66 cents a day increase.

What a bunch of cheap, hateful tightwads here.

When at a fast food joint that pays like a Republican, tell them to keep the coin change -- i do. Maybe they wouldn't need food stamps then.
In the end I get back much more than I tip. Once they get to know me, I get back all sorts of freebies -- like a quarter pounder, fries and a coffee for $1.06 ($2 with tip.)
Remember, the joke is on the cheap Republican that owns the joint.

Nice, you "tip" the change, which causes their drawer to be off,and them to be written up - or caught putting money in their pocket, and then they steal from their employer to give you free food.

Fast food jobs are not supposed to support a family - they're an entry level job that's supposed to be used as a stepping stone to a better job.

If working for a living and earning what you have means being a cheap hateful tightwad then I'm proud to be one.

Awesome that you completely miss the point. Welfare was never meant to be a lifestyle.

Wow, how much fast food do you eat to get "comps" from the workers? I can count on one hand the amount of times I've eaten fast food in the last five years. Also, seems like your generous "tips" are part of a plan to get a lot of freebies which you brad about, which doesn't really make you generous.

It'll just be more drug money for the parent. When is the government going to start drug testing these welfare recipients?

I 100% agree and love your suggestions. I'd like to add my own.
#5 Mandatory home visits to see what the welfare funds are being spent on. If you have a hi-def flat screen tv and a freezer full of name brand high dollar items (think steak, and other "luxury" foods..) the food stamps will be taken and used to stock food banks and folks who abuse the system can get their food from there.
#6. Stricter controls over who can accept food stamps and what can be purchased. My Aunt and her loser ex-husband were on welfare for 7 years. During that time they would buy all of their meat at the local butcher while my parents, who both worked, had to buy theirs at the local grocery store. Pathetic.

Maybe even take it one-step further. Why do we need food stamps if we provide the food for them? Instead of sending them money, they need to go to one of several locations with their identification. Based on their ID, they will get the allotted amount of food for their family.

To me welfare is like prison. You should hate it and not be able to get comfortable or dependent on it. It should disgust you so much that you want out and will do whatever is necessary never to go back.

Good suggestions. Regarding what they can buy has gotten a lot better. Now the card will not allow items to ring at the grocery store for items that are disqualified. Years ago, you had to rely on the cashiers who just didn't give a darn...case in point. I went into the store one evening after work at my first job out of school. I get in line behind a woman who was buying a ton of crap (paper plates, soda, individual size chip bags, frozen foods, BEER) and paying with food stamps. Looking at this lady with about 5 gold chains around her neck, gold rings, fake nails with designs on them, I drew the line at beer. I told the cashier that she can't buy beer with food stamps. Cashier looked at me, shrugged her shoulders and rang it up. Great. Get to my 7 year old Geo metro in the parking lot and start putting in my gcoceries. I see her loading a late model, nicely equiped SUV with a loud cranking stereo system. Nice, huh?

They made it too acceptable when they changed from food stamps to a card. Bring back food stamps and the stygma that goes with them.
