Man held in shootout involving off-duty police officer

About 8:30 p.m. Friday, the off-duty officer saw two people exchanging gunfire in the 12700 block of South Parnell Avenue, according to police news affairs.

What is wrong with you people? The Police do the best job they can with the restrictions placed upon them by the city. You scream that they are not around when one of the gang bangers kills your honor students and in the same breath bash them when they defend themselves against the same gang bangers. Am I understanding you correctly that it's ok for them to be killed in the line of duty as long as they don't take out the punks trying to kill them? No wonder Daley closed down the projects in the city and sent 90% of the blacks to the suburbs for us to deal with. Did you read the aticle Rosco? The OFFENDERS had guns and were firing them...would you rather the officer simply go into his residence or just drive away and do nothing? If that was the case then you would call him a coward.
People will soon be begging for Police service when the members of the CPD realize that they are not backed by the citizens of Chicago or by their own department. I know plenty of CPD members who now are simply "Report takers" instead of proactive officers. You know what...I don't blame them one bit either.

It sounds like the officer did his job. Its a shame they didn't catch both of them who felt they can be illegally armed to openly shoot about at people in order to handle their disputes. The fact that they were still exchanging gunfire when the officer arrived shows the jerks still weren't hitting their targets. So I wonder where all the free flying bullets end up? Usually in someone else' head.

Just report takers?
Since when have Chicago police ever been honest, aggressive law enforcers? They are the laziest, most ill mannered, vulgar group of folks you could ever meet. I know some who are honest, polite and work hard, but trust me they are a small minority in a big department. I would fire them all and start all over.
