Historically, it was not uncommon for wealthy families especially to marry their first cousins to keep the money in the family.
I understand this, but... as some love to claim, this is the 21st century, dammit!

What was okay back then, is not so much now.

I guess there's an upside. If they decide to get married, they'll pretty much have the same guest list.

Downside is, less gifts!

And that's fair enough. I was just using my own personal experiences. I wasn't taking into account multiple siblings who each had 12 friggin offspring.

Right. My grandma had a sister M who was significantly younger. Thus, my mom (D) has a cousin C who is also significantly younger than my mom (C is about 5 years older than I am). C's son is the same age as my son.

As I understand it, C's son is my son's second cousin once removed. C's son is in the same age group as a whole parcel (about 10) of his second cousins once removed.

DEAR AMY: My cousin is a young and ambitious attorney...She makes fun of the questions her secretary asks, the way she looks and dresses, and her work ethic.(She called it "lazy" when her secretary asked which task from a list she'd been given was the highest priority.)

Wow, LW. The secretary sounds a helluva lot more intelligent than your cousin, who, despite her law degree, really sounds like a clueless btch.

Chances are your cousin has already alienated a lot of people and will get exactly what she deserves.
