Judged: 1 Why? Properly raised dogs do not attack. |
|
Judged: 1 1 You should report the guy who held the gun to your head and forced you to read the article to the authorities. |
|
|
Judged: 2 The owner of this dog should be charged with the same ordinance as someone who would leave a loaded gun lying around. |
|
Why do you complain? If you don't like the Trib then don't read it. |

A ticket in larger amounts would perhaps make people think longer about getting a less cantankerous pet.

Judged: 1 1 1 WOW this is like the millionth report of a pitbull mauling a person in the news. like omg WAKE UP people! Obviously this is a dangerous breed and needs to be banned and outlawed to breed. Pitt Bull owners BE CAREFULL! they will turn on you and kill you, if not you then one of your family members! Let us highlight the fact that attacks by pitbulls are steadily occurring. In fact, it reinforces the topic that people are still talking about how DANGEROUS this breed is. On personal experience, Ive seen pit bulls attack other dogs. basically, the pit bull owners think they can control their dog and the dog "snaps" and we call the cops. They are banned in various part of Canada and Australia, fully banned in the UK, Denmark, Norway, and in some states in the USA. Please if you are a pit bull owner BE CAREFUL and don't become part of the statistic of an owner being mauled or killed by this breed. I will post more attacks as they come. BAN PIT BULLS NOW!! |
Do the research, your statistics about attacks and deaths are 100% wrong. However, I do agree that something must be done to prevent this. Obviously, higher fees or stricter license rules won't work, because the thugs that use these dogs for fighting and status don't care about the rule of law. I think that we need to sieze vehicles, homes, and other assets of the people who are using these dogs in fights. Preventative laws won't work. |

Majority of attacks and deaths?...I don't think so...Cocker Spaniels bite more often that pitbulls...I'd like to see where you came up with that info. |

Judged: 1 They can't use the neighborhood as an excuse (i.e. this happens in the ghetto because of thugs owning the breed). Glenview is as upscale as it gets (famous for the $1 mil "tear-down" homes). Pits just have a natural tendency to be violent & aggressive. I am sure there are people who can train them to not be violent & aggressive, but you shouldn't have to be the Sigfried and Roy of dog training to own a Pit Bull. If these dogs are that tough to train, then treat them like guns and require people to get a dog-owners license and require mandatory training. I am all in favor of communities determining if they should ban certain breeds. I just don't think it would hold up to a supreme court challenge. |

Why do you guys keep saying to do research, when you obviously have not done any? Here are stats from an organization (CDC) that has no agenda on breed-specific bans (in fact, they are against bans). You guys make these statements as if you have a PHD in dog breeds. What, do people need to get a PHD in dog breeding before posting on this topic? http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/duip/dogbreeds.pdf Look at this report and tell me where your beloved pit bull falls (#1 with a bullet, if you don't want to read it). |

Judged: 1 1 1 From the Center for Disease Control: "Attacks by pit bulls accounted for about a third of the 238 fatal dog attacks in the United States during a 20-year study, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Pit bulls were blamed for killing 76 people, or 32 percent, during a study of dog attacks from 1979-1998, the study showed. Rottweilers were the second most deadly animal, reportedly killing 44 people, or 18.5 percent, during the same period." Thanks for playing, though. |

YES! This is the best reply Ive heard to date - forget the fine. Have the owner pay the hospital bills then put the pitbull to sleep. Of course this layw would only pertain to the pitbulls since Ive never heard any other dogs chasing and attacking people as much as these dogs. |

Judged: 1 1 1 You are obviously misinformed. Look where Cocker Spaniels fall on this report (from the CDC). http://www.cdc.gov/ncipc/duip/dogbreeds.pdf They are dead last. |
